Parents and Caregivers,

For your childs safety, we have carefully developed the activities in this book so they can be performed and enjoyed by children age seven years or older. The activities specify when children should ask an adult for help.

However, since children develop at different levels, only a parent or close adult can judge the abilities of a particular child. Please review individual activities to ensure they are appropriate for your child.

INTRODUCTION
Dear Reader,

This book began with a simple idea: Create an activity book that captures everything you love about being a kidand things that are important for you to know how to do. As we explored all the possible activities to include, we realized the idea wasnt so simple after all. Ultimately, it was the early days of Highlights that became our guide and inspiration. Before publishing the very first issue of Highlights magazine in 1946, the creators Caroline and Garry Myers thought about calling it My Do Book. This was fascinating to learn because choosing to do is more important than ever. Do is the driving force behind everything in this book.

The Highlights Book of Things to Do gives you the opportunity to create, make, play, invent, discover, explore, think, share, and laugh. Perhaps you were given this book to use whenever you are bored or have nothing to do. Or maybe because its a good alternative to screen time. But we believe this book is so much more!

Our greatest hope is that you will think of this book as an adventuresomething that you can pick up whenever you are curious. For instance, have you ever wished you could whistle really loudly with your fingers? Or that you could invent your own language? Maybe youve wanted to make a tool belt out of tape, or build a robot with an electric toothbrush. Youll be able to discover new ways of doing what you already know. Youll learn more about what you thought you knew. Most of all, youll discover what you dont know yet. Because we believe that one of the best parts about doing is discovering. We hope you do, too.

The very last chapter of this book is called Do Great Things. Maybe youve heard stories about kids who are changing the world in very big ways. However, doing great things doesnt have to be groundbreakingit can simply mean being your best self. You can be your best self when you approach a problem or use your voice. You can hold the door open for someone or listen to yourself when you are stressed or angry. This chapter shows how all of us can do great things every single day, even if were only making the world a better place for a few minutes. The word
