I wish there were a pill I could take to make me thin. A pill with no side effects. Or a machine that would magically melt the fat right off my body. I am so tired of fat hanging over my pants, wearing tent clothes to hide. I hate shopping for clothesnothing fits. There is no way I could attend my high school reunion; no one would recognize me. When I pass a mirror or window and see my reflection I cringe. Its not fair. I eat well and exercise and I still cant seem to lose weight. Ill never get married, or get the job I want, or go to the beach again. I avoid the scale like the plague. In fact, I avoid going to the doctor because I know he is going to take my blood pressure and weigh me. There is SO much information flying around about nutrition and weight loss programs, its overwhelming, and no one seems to be able to keep the weight off for good, so whats the point?

Have you ever felt like this? I have. With approximately two-thirds of all Americans being obese as of today, too many people feel this way.

How can this be? How can we be so far advanced in other areas, sending people to the moon, re-growing stem cells, 3-D printing buildings, using laser eye surgery, connecting the entire planet with a worldwide internet and yet we cant solve our biggest health problem, obesity. Isnt the answer simple? Why cant we stop eating?

If youve ever struggled with your weight and thought it was hopeless, youre in luck. There is a magic bulletwell, two bulletsthat if combined can lead to easy and successful weight loss and glowing health.

Lets start with how we took a wrong turn.

The American dream has always been to come up with a new invention, market it well and make lots of money. Because of our hard-wired survival instincts, it didnt take long for food companies to figure out how to push our buttons.

Unfortunately, they went too far. Their greed has surpassed their concern for our health because the profits are so enormous. If most people were healthy their profits would dry up. Their secret weapon is sugar and carbs. As long as they put the right amount of sugar or carbs with the right mix of ingredients in a bright colored package, these evil foods become as addicting as heroin. Like any addiction, you will need more and more to feel the same high. You will feel good at first and then as the high fades you become irritable, weak, grouchy. So you eat and eat and you discover that you just cant seem to find satisfaction from food, but you eat anyway because you cant stand the low. Over time this creates insulin resistance.

Insulin resistance is responsible for many of the diseases plaguing us todaydiabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, cancer, and the list goes on. In order to treat these diseases you turn to doctors for help. Doctors have been trained in pharmaceutical cures. They prescribe this drug or that drug in an attempt to balance things out and get you back to normal. The pharmaceutical companies are more than happy to supply a plethora of pills. Pink pills, yellow pills, blue pills.

Before you know it, you need one drug to counteract the effects of another drug. Then the side effects cause other diseases and from there you are on a slippery slope to poor health, no real benefit from your food, drug addiction and possibly an early death. Not only is your health gone but your quality of life has also deteriorated to the point that you are downright depressed.

We have a pill for that too.

Insulin resistance is an epidemic in our society. How do you know if you have it? If you have belly fat, you have insulin resistance. If you are hungry within two hours of eating, you have it. If you crave pasta, bread, sweets and caffeine, you have it. If you are bloated and retaining water, you have it. If you cant seem to lose weight no matter what, or if you plateau at a certain point and cant seem to lose those last few pounds, you have it.

Insulin resistance comes from our bodies becoming less sensitive to insulin because we overuse it. We overuse it by eating too frequently. Every time you eat anything, you release insulin. If you eat sugar and carbs you release a lot of insulin
