I ve had a number of wonderful relationships in my life, as well as my share of painful ones. I know both the highs and lows of love intimately. Ive also been very lucky to have seen the deep and lasting love between my parents (married for forty-six years before my dad passed over) as well as my sisters and their spouses (Elaine has been married to her husband, David, for over thirty-five years, and Alicia and Paul just celebrated their fifty-fourth anniversary). Ive seen their mutual love become stronger as they have gone through the years together. My sisters and their husbands have seen the best and the worst in each other and it has only brought them closer. They are true examples of how love between partners can help people to grow and deepen their connectionnot just with each other, but also with love itself. The lessons my sisters and their partners have taught me about love, sharing, kindness, unselfishness, and being separate yet united are some of the best guidance anyone could receive for creating great relationships.

Equally important, I have learned about the connection between love and psychic ability. Because of my work as a spiritual intuitive who has spent the last thirty-five years helping people get in touch with their loved ones on the other side, I know firsthand the power of lovenot just on earth but for eternity. Love is the bridge that connects us all to the spirit world. It allows me to speak with those who have passed over, connecting deceased loved ones with those who are still here on earth. Love is the reason that most people come to me for a readingthey have lost someone dear to them and want to be reassured that their loved one is still present somewhere, safe and well. One recent example of this was Marinel, a woman who came to my television show for a reading. She had lost her mother when she was young and had had a difficult timeuntil she met the love of her life, Bernard. They married and began a wonderful life together, but their bliss was cut short when Bernard died in a car accident only a few years after their marriage. Marinel wanted to know if Bernard was okay on the other side. We were together for such a short time, and we were so much in love, she said. Is he at peace with the destiny that took him away so young?

Like so many people who come to me for readings concerning their relationships, Marinels story touched me deeply. As a spiritual intuitive, I can read the unique energies associated with different people both here and on the other side, and some energies are stronger than others. Marinels husband Bernard came through very quickly and with very strong energy. Bernards saying theres nothing you could have done to prevent his death. It is the way it is, I told Marinel. Hes also saying that you gave him the greatest gift, because he lived long enough to know what it is to really feel love and be in love with someone else. He never was in love with anyone else but you. And its the same for youthe hard part is that youre still here while hes in heaven.

As I continued speaking, Marinels eyes glistened with tears. Hes saying that you put something in his hand before he died. I cant see it because hes still holding it clenched in his fist. He says that no one knows you gave him this, but it will be with him forever.

Marinel looked at me in shock. Before my mother died she gave me a chestnut. It was a little thing, but it meant a lot to me. Before Bernard died I gave him that chestnut. No one knew about it but me. I smiled.

The funny thing was that the day before Bernard was cremated, a little girl went into my brothers garden, picked a chestnut, and gave it to me, Marinel said. She told me, Thats for you. She didnt know about my mothers chestnut, but I thought that maybe Bernard asked her to give it to me as a sign from him.

Im sure youre right, I told her. It was a sign that he still loves you and is with you and always will be. And when you go to heaven many years from now, Bernard will be there to welcome you home.

Weve all felt it, or wanted it: that feeling of overwhelming, all-encompassing love that sweeps us off our feet and raises us up to the heights of ecstasy.
