MATERIALS
Lizbeth Thread size 10 crochet cotton (122 yds/25g per ball): 1 ball #604 black Tatting shuttle Size 12/1.00mm steel crochet hook Size 8/0 seed beads*: 12 for earrings, 13 for necklace, 19 or more for bracelet Small paper clips: 2 Size 3 embroidery needle 6mm jump rings: 7 4mm jump rings: 4 Jewelry pliers Wire cutters Ear wires: 2 Clasp fasteners: 2 Necklace chain Small charm
*Note: Size 6/0 seed beads may be used if holes are small enough to prevent tatting from slipping through beads.SPECIAL TECHNIQUES
Lock join (LJ): Pull shuttle thread through picot, forming loop. Pull shuttle through loop and pull on shuttle thread to tighten
(see Photo 1).
Shoelace Trick (SLT): With shuttle thread on top of ball thread, put shuttle under ball thread and through center of space between crossed threads. Knot formed looks like first part of tying a shoe. Tighten knot.
EARRING
Make 2. Wind shuttle with 1 yd of thread and leave attached to ball.
Form a bead picot by pulling loop of thread through a bead with crochet hook; then secure temporarily with paper clip
(see Photos 4 and 5).
Ch 15.
Ch 15.
Form another bead picot by pulling loop of thread through a bead and secure temporarily with paper clip. Ch 5. Remove paper clip from first bead picot LJ(see Special Techniques on page 1). Turn (like turning page of book). SLT(see Special Techniques on page 1). *Ch 10.
Form a bead picot. Ch 5. Remove paper clip from adjacent bead picot and LJ. Turn. SLT (see Photo 6). Rep from * 3 times.
Ch 15 and LJ to last bead picot. Tie, hide ends and cut.
FINISHING
Block with steam. Attach findings to last tatted chain.
BRACELET
Wind shuttle with 2 yds of thread and leave attached to ball. Work same as Earring, except continue reps until about inch shorter than wrist measurement.
Ch 15 and LJ to last bead picot. Tie, hide ends and cut.
FINISHING
Block with steam. Attach clasp to first tatted chain. Connect jump rings as needed to last tatted chain to provide a comfortable fit.
NECKLACE
Note: The technique for tatting Necklace is the same as used for Earrings and Bracelet, except stitch count is changed to form a curve. Wind shuttle with 2 yds of thread and leave attached to ball.
Form bead picot by pulling loop of thread through a bead and secure temporarily with paper clip. Ch 15. Form another bead picot by pulling loop of thread through a bead and secure temporarily with paper clip. Ch 5. Remove paper clip from first beaded picot. LJ(see Special Techniques on page 1).
Turn (like turning page of book). SLT(see Special Techniques on page 1). Ch 8. Form a bead picot. Ch 5. Turn. SLT. *Ch 12. *Ch 12.
Form a bead picot. Ch 5. Remove paper clip from adjacent bead picot and LJ. Turn. SLT. Ch 8.
Form a bead picot. Ch 5. Remove paper clip from adjacent bead picot and LJ. Turn. SLT. Ch 15. Ch 15.
LJ to last bead picot. Tie, hide ends and cut.
FINISHING
Block with steam. To finish as an 18-inch Necklace, cut 2 pieces of chain, each 7 inches long. Attach chain to first and last tatted chains with jump rings
(see Photo 7).
