SHOP THE THRIFT STORE LIKE A PRO
Whether youre at Goodwill or the Salvation Army, you gotta get creative when sifting through the piles. Heres how to find vintage gold among the duds
Look for pieces that have potential. A tailor could easily make too-long pants fit perfectly. A missing button or wonky zipper can probably be repaired. Or you could take scissors to a pair of thrift-store jeans and make em into cutoffs.
Be wary of the rose-colored glasses. If something is stained, badly damaged or genuinely too big (like a jacket or shoes), its best to just say no. There are also some items that dont quite translate once theyve been worn. Think: bikinis. Well pass, thanks.
Ignore the number. Remember that sizes from back in the day are different from now. Dont get caught up in the tag. If it sorta looks like it might fit, try it on.
LOVE IT!
The easiest way to try out vintage? Accessories! Major necklaces, silk scarves, kitschy clutches and bejeweled bracelets are all super easy to find (and wear). Theyll put a clever twist on your best outfits.

LEARN TO LOVE EXERCISE
I t seems like one of lifes great mysteries: Some girls just LOVE to work out while others would rather floss their teeth with barbed wire than hit the gym. Well, guess what? Were here to tell you that even the biggest sweat-phobes can find a routine they heart.
THINK FAST: What was your favorite way to be active when you were teeny? Did you love gymnastics or ballet or just bouncing around the house to whatever song came on? Try yoga or Pilates or Zumba. Was hopscotch your thing? Jump some rope for a mega calorie torcher. Were you more into team sports? Sign up for a rec league or a class at the Y to advance your skills. If youve always been more of a pick-daisies than kick-balls kind of girl, start doing nature walks with your friends. That counts, too.
Once youre back to moving and grooving in a way you enjoy, build from there. Its the rare person who absolutely loves intense cardio or strength training from the start, but try adding in one day of something different and challenging to your weekly routine, like lifting light weights, jogging around the block or taking a bike ride. Variety is key for getting in shape and, over time, we bet youll appreciate the added strength and energy working out brings. Promise.

GRACIOUSLY ACCEPT A COMPLIMENT
Lots of chicas find themselves flustered if someone tosses sweet words their way. Pretty? Nah, its just the dress. Smart? Not it. The next time someone praises you or your abilities, look them in the eyes and simply say, thank you. Itll be tough at first, but over time youll learn to embrace the sunshine.
