Praise for Animal Stars
Animal Stars is an inspiring tapestry, with emotions interwoven into every picture and word. We all know the feeling of connecting with our favorite animal of their welcoming us, happier to see us than anyone else, and loving us unconditionally. This beautiful book is filled with stories of creatures great and small, all beloved companions and heroes, proving that the magic of life is indeed alive in the wondrous animals with whom we share this amazing planet. Let yourself soak in the love that flows from every page!
SIEGFRIED & ROY
Each page of Animal Stars is star-studded, and I am thankful to say that what American Humane Association does can only be classified as a knockout. So, yo, Rocky, knock yourself out and be sure to read Animal Stars.
CAROL CONNORS, two-time Academy Awardnominated songwriter and national spokesperson for AHA cat adoption
If you are an animal lover and a fan of movies and television, this is a must-read. I found myself enthralled with the stories from filmmakers and trainers about how they achieved cinematic magic with these amazing animals!
CANDY SPELLING
Through John Paul Pet we help care for, adopt, and save hundreds of thousands of our friends in the animal kingdom. All of them cannot say thank you with a smile, a wag of their tail, or a flip of their flipper, but the majority give us unconditional love. Its only honorable and fitting for people as special as Robin Ganzert and the Andersons to publish a book on how truly unique and special these animals are. This information is enjoyable and, most important, FUN!
JOHN PAUL DEJORIA, founder of John Paul Pet, cofounder and CEO of Paul Mitchell Hair Care, and cofounder and chairman of Patron Spirits
A collaboration of animal lovers, protectors, and educators has conjured the perfect book for those who are inspired by the human-animal bond. Thank you for taking us behind the scenes of the movie sets that have inspired us all.
PRINCE LORENZO BORGHESE, animal advocate
Robin Ganzert and Allen and Linda Anderson give us a peek at what it takes to have Benji smile at just the right moment or let Hightower take Julia Roberts for the perfect ride. But these animals meant even more than that on the sets where they performed. Just as our companion animals do for us at home, these animal stars helped keep cast and crew grounded in reality, smiling whenever possible, and enjoying every day to the fullest. This is a great and enjoyable read.
ROBERT VETERE, president and CEO, American Pet Products Association, and author of From Wags to Riches
Animal Stars gets 5 s with a rating of G for great. This is a book that needed to be written. As the principal veterinarian for most of the trainers interviewed in this book, I believe that it accurately portrays the bond that exists between animal trainers and their charges. For these trainers, working and communicating with animals is a calling a lifetime commitment. Congratulations to American Humane Association for making this information available to the animal-loving public in such a highly readable format.
JAMES F. PEDDIE, DVM, veterinarian to many animal stars

CONTENTS
A nimals provide us with much joy and unconditional love, and I appreciate seeing them celebrated in entertainment. Animals in films remind us all of our own pets at home and how much they improve our health and enrich our lives. This book shares inside stories about our favorite animal stars and the trainers and celebrities who work with them to create magical moments.
Animal actors often steal the show, and you just cant help but smile when they appear on-screen. I look back fondly on the animal stars of years past from Benji to Black Beauty and the happiness those beloved stars brought to so many. Today, animal stars like adventurous Crystal from Night at the Museum and adorable Uggie from The Artist seize the spotlight. This book features behind-the-scenes accounts of Benji, Crystal, and Uggie, as well as Finders Key from War Horse, Hightower from The Horse Whisperer, Casey the bear from the Jungle Book movies, and Crackerjack from the Harry Potter films, to name only a few of the animals who have stolen hearts around the world and whom youll meet in the following pages.
