Adversity Is good. Overcoming it is even better. Trees grow stronger in high winds and people grow stronger with adversity and resistance. If I hadnt gone bankrupt forty plus years ago, I would not have discovered that my problems were my transportation to my destiny i.e. becoming worlds bestselling non-fiction author and a high paid professional speaker. We all go through adversity and this book will inspire you to overcome it with excellence, elegance, and a decision to win bigger than ever.

Through ample clinical experience and cut-edge medical theory, Eileen Lenson shows us how our past traps us, and how to move forward by redefining our lives; for our own well-being, so as not to suffer secondary victimization by the offender. Dedication
To Rachel and Michael
Together may you triumph and find resilience over any challenge that crosses your path.
To Lloyd, my husband of almost 32 years
Without your tolerance for leftovers and a messy house, this book could not have been written. You have influenced every aspect of this book, from introducing me to remarkable people, to cover design to providing critical analysis of chapters on long cross-country and transatlantic flights to and from work. You have supported me in everything I have done or gone through, including tolerating the three of us being in bed together; you, me, and my computer. I dont deserve you, yet would never want to think about being without you. I realize how incredibly fortunate I am to have you by my side. I married very, very well.
Our service puts us in harms way far from our families, often for long periods of time. What we do is hard and dangerous, but it is bigger than any one of us. So we do it as a team. Hardships are shared.
From Who We Are, the Creed of the U.S. Navys Aviation fleet
Harms way. Shared hardships. Dangerous undertakings. Sounds thrilling and difficult and edgy, doesnt it? This is the world in which I spent the majority of my adult life. Naval Aviation. Flying high performance jet aircraft from the flight deck of the United States Navys aircraft carriers. Day and night. The night flights are harrowing. Trying to find, and then land, on a thousand foot long piece of steel thats bobbing like a cork in the middle of the ocean in the middle of the night will get ones hear rate and blood pressure up every time. Flying missions in combat. Shooting and being shot at. Often. Long overseas deployment, normally to turbulent hot spots around the globe. And sometimes not everyone comes home.
I have not had the honor and privilege of meeting Eileen Lenson. Yet. I know Eileens husband, though. We sat next to each on a flight from Washington, DC, to Los Angeles last year. As we got to know each, naturally the conversation turned to families. Spouses, children, grandchildren. When Eileens husband told me that she was life coach and helped those in need work their way step-by-step through adversity and return to hope in life, something resonated with me. Given my military career and background, coping with adversity had kinda come with the job description. When Eileen reached out and asked me to share a few thoughts from my own experiences, particularly surrounding loss and recovery, I thought it important to do so. Stories of recovery and resilience should be shared and celebrated. To me, at least, these stories represent a triumph of sorts of the human soul. The journey through Forgiveness, Courage, Perspective, and Perseverance to arrive again at Hope is to take the journey of Eileens wonderful book. It is a read filled with stories. What follows is mine.
