When working tiny areas of one color, work Continental Stitches, Overcast adjacent edges, and then add Straight Stitches, Backstitches and French Knots in one step. . .

Keep 1-ply stitches even. When adding embroidered details using 1 ply separated from a full strand of yarn, twist the fiber as you work to keep it fairly tight. This will give you a better looking stitch that is consistent in width. . Maintain a medium tension when forming a highlight through a French Knot with pearl cottonneat but not too tight. Separate 1 ply from a full strand of white yarn; thread it onto a #18 tapestry needle.

Holding the French Knot in place on the surface of the plastic canvas with one thumb, use the other hand to draw the threaded needle up through the center of the French Knot from back to front. Wrap the yarn over the upper right edge of the French Knot and take the needle back through the plastic canvas at the same point where the French Knot was formed. . When all stitching is complete and any glue is dry, press adhesive-backed magnet strip onto back of plastic canvas. Cutting & Stitching . Cut one dolphins motif from plastic canvas according to graph.

Work Continental Stitches and Overcast edges according to graph. When background stitches are complete, add embroidery stitches, referring to General Instructions on page 1. Using black and silver yarns, Straight Stitch mouths and fins. Using black #5 pearl cotton, work Backstitches and Straight Stitches according to graph. Work French Knot eyes, wrapping pearl cotton around needle three times. Using 1 ply separated from a strand of white yarn throughout, refer to step 4 of General Instructions to work eye highlights through French Knots; Backstitch and Straight Stitch highlights on water using 1 ply white yarn.

Adhere magnet strip to back of stitched plastic canvas. Cutting & Stitching . Cut one lobster from plastic canvas according to graph. Work Continental Stitches and Overcast edges according to graph. Note: When working black yarn stitches for each eye, work one stitch for the upper stitch, and work over stitch twice for the lower stitch. When background stitches are complete, Straight Stitch legs using beige yarn. Using 1 ply separated from a strand of white yarn, Backstitch highlights on tail, and work highlights on eyes, splitting black stitches as you take needle back down.

For antennae, draw a strand of black #5 pearl cotton through plastic canvas from front to back at one antenna placement point. Leaving a 3-inch tail on front, secure pearl cotton with a Backstitch on back, then draw through other antenna placement point from back to front. Using your fingertips, stiffen both antennae by working dabs of glue into them. Shape antennae so that they curve to the outside; let dry. Trim ends even. If desired, secure completed antennae to plastic canvas with tiny dabs of glue.

Adhere magnet strip to back of stitched plastic canvas. Using black #5 pearl cotton, Backstitch and Straight Stitch mouth and tail; work French Knot for eye, wrapping pearl cotton around needle three times.

Using 1 ply separated from a strand of white yarn, Straight Stitch line on tail, and work eye highlight through French Knot eye. Adhere magnet strip to back of stitched plastic canvas.
