Introduction
Do you love The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel? Are you a fan of Midge, Susie and their camaraderie? Do you wish to surprise guests with a Jewish meal party? Are you looking for menu inspiration? You have come to the right place! This book is dedicated to the shows fans and the recipes Midge whips up. There are 30 delicacies to choose from and each one is peppered with trivia from the show. As we know, Midge maintains a slim figure but does not compromise on food.
Well, a girl has to eat and, in this case, she loves digging into Jewish delicacies. From biting into macaroons to guzzling down wine straight from the bottle, she makes sure she has a good time. Surprise your guests with a Mrs. Maisel themed party and show them how big a fan you are! Lets get started!
Chapter 1: Drinks to Get the Party Started
1. Bourbon
Susie likes to knock back a few Four Roses at the bar. This Bourbon based drink is perfect to get things rolling! Serving size: Cooking time: 5 minutes Ingredients:
- 1-ounce lime juice
- 2 ounces Bourbon
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- Lemon twist
- Ice cubes
Instructions: 1.
Add the lime juice and bourbon to a shaker along with sugar and ice cubes and shake for 30 seconds. 2. Pour into a glass and serve with a lemon twist.
2. Diet Daiquiri
Midge, as we know, is conscious of her weight and tries to maintain a super slim figure. Pretty sure she sips on diet daiquiri to maintain herself! Serving size: Cooking time: 5 minutes Ingredients:
- 2 ounces rum
- 1 lemon, juiced
- teaspoon sugar
- Lemon slices
- Ice cubes
Instructions: 1.
Add lemon juice, sugar and rum to a shaker along with ice cubes and shake for 30 seconds. 2. Pour into a glass and serve with lime slices.
3. Lime Rickey
Midge takes her friend Imogene to a Jewish restaurant and orders a lime Rickey for herself. Easy to make, this drink is perfect to start dinner or cocktail parties! Serving size: 7-8 Cooking time: 15 minutes Ingredients:
- 8 tablespoons sugar
- 2 cups gin
- 10 cups lemon juice
- 5 cups cold soda
- cup water
- Lime slices
Instructions: 1.
Make a thin syrup with sugar and water. 2. Once cool, add to a pitcher along with lemon juice and gin and mix well. 3. Add in ice cubes and lemon slices and mix. 4.
Pour in glasses and serve.
4. Martini with Olives
On her last night at Catskills, Midge calls for martinis with two olives. Heres the recipe. Serving size: Cooking time: 5 minutes Ingredients:
- 3 ounces gin
- ounce vermouth
- ounce olive brine
- Ice cubes
- 2 olives
Instructions: 1. 2. 2.
Pour into a cocktail glass and serve with two olives.
5. Tomato Juice
Plenty of tomato juice goes around at the Catskills. This drink will surprise your guests and start conversations! Serving size: Cooking time: 5 minutes Ingredients:
- 2 cups orange juice
- cup vodka
- 4 teaspoons tabasco
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 cups tomato juice
- Ice cubes
Instructions 1. Add the orange juice, lemon juice, vodka and tabasco to a pitcher and mix. 2.
Pour in the tomato juice and mix. 3. Serve with ice cubes.
Chapter 2: Starters and Main Course
6. Shrimp Egg Roll
Midge during her wedding speech says theres shrimp in the egg roll. The rabbi is offended by the information and storms out.
Midges mother runs behind him saying she was only joking! Im sure your guests wont run away after sampling these shrimp egg rolls! Serving size: Cooking time: 30 minutes Ingredients:
- 1 lb shrimp
- 5 tablespoons bean sprouts
- 1 celery, chopped
- 2 cups coleslaw
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce
- 15 egg roll wrappers
- Oil for frying
Instructions: 1. Add the shrimp, bean sprouts, green onions, oyster sauce, celery, coleslaw, soy sauce, garlic, hot sauce and ginger to a bowl and mix. 2. Place the wrappers on a platter and add a tablespoon of the mixture in the center and fold. 3. 4. 4.
Heat oil in a pot and add the wrappers. 5. Fry until brown and crispy. 6. Serve with sauce.
Its the dish that unites Joel and Midge. The two share a Mac n Cheese and decide to reconcile. Serving size: Cooking time: 20 minutes Ingredients:
