Chapter One Focus on the Reader
The Agile Manager sat silently as William, one of his product designers, made a pitch. The Agile Manager's product-development team was seeing if it could scare up some revenue by taking on some development work for other companies.
"I've got fifteen years in this business," droned William. "And the others on the team have at least as much experience as I do." The president of the company being pitched shifted in her seat uncomfortably. "I don't think there's anything we can't do." The Agile Manager winced; the president noticed.
"Thank you for stopping by, gentlemen," she said as she stood up.
"I'll put all of this in writing for you," said William. He remained seated. "Then we can get together again. How does next week sound?" William looked pleased with himself.
"Uh, I'll have to consult my planner and get back to you," she said blandly.
The Agile Manager sprang up and said, "Thank you very much for taking the time to see us. We'll be in touch." He tapped William on the shoulder and headed out the door.

she calls us this afternoon." The Agile Manager scanned the vast parking lot for his car and said nothing. There it is, he thought.
