Introduction
It may be hard to believe, but there are hundreds of donut recipes. Each one is unique, but equally delicious. Donuts are not just for breakfast anymore! Cake donuts and other rich donuts are perfect as a dessert or for a special occasion.
This donut recipe book gives you a taste of the many kinds of donuts. Glazed donuts, filled donuts, donut holes, mini donuts, and many, many different flavors. Some require a donut pan, while others are fried in oil. The baked donuts are a slightly healthier option. You can also personalize each recipe by trying your own glaze or filling or by mixing the recipes up by taking your favorite things from a few recipes and turning it into a new recipe. A lot of the bought donuts are overly sweet, when making your own you can simply adjust it to your own liking.
So go nuts and make some decadent donuts!

Glazed Donuts
Apple Cider Glazed Donuts
These donuts are a great treat for the fall. They include a delicious apple cider glaze that your family is sure to love.
Yields: Makes About 18 Donuts.
Ingredients:
1 cup of apple cider
3 cups of flour (plus a few for your work space)
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon of baking soda
teaspoon of cinnamon
teaspoon of salt
1/8 teaspoon of nutmeg
4 tablespoons of butter (room temperature)
1 cup of sugar
2 eggs
cup of buttermilk
Vegetable oil
For the Glaze:
1 cup of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of apple cider
Method of Preparation:
- Put the apple cider in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes so that the cider is reduced to about of a cup. Set aside to cool.
- Mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a small bowl, and set aside.
- Using a stand mixer, beat the sugar and butter together until they are creamy. Beat the eggs in one at a time. When the eggs are incorporated, reduce the speed to low.
- Add the buttermilk and apple cider and mix until they are just combined.
- Add the flour mixture, and continue to stir until the dough comes together.
- Set parchment paper on two baking sheets and dust them with flour.
- Put the dough on the baking sheets and flatten it with your hands to -inch thickness.
- Freeze the dough for about 20 minutes.
- Use a donut cutter to cut the dough into donut shapes until all the dough is used. Place the pieces in the refrigerator for 20 minutes.
- Place oil in a deep-sided pan. It should measure about 3 inches deep. Heat the oil to 350 F.
- Fry the donuts in batches for about one minute on each side. Place the fried donuts on a plate lined with paper towels to drain the excess oil.
- Mix the glaze ingredients in a small bowl until smooth, and dip the cooled donuts in the glaze.
- Allow the glaze to set before serving.
Baked Doughnuts with Nutella Glaze
It seems like everyone loves Nutella, and these donuts are perfect for the Nutella fan in your family.
Yields: Makes 9 doughnuts.
Ingredients:
1 cups of all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon of baking powder
teaspoon of salt
cup of granulated sugar
1/3 cup of Nutella
3 tablespoons of butter, softened
1 large egg
teaspoon of vanilla extract
cup milk
For the Glaze:
1 cup of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of Nutella
4 to 6 teaspoons of milk
teaspoons of vanilla extract
Toasted hazelnuts, chopped (for optional topping)
Method of Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 400 F.
- Mix the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder together in a mixing bowl. Set aside.
- Whip the sugar, Nutella, light-brown sugar, and butter in a mixing bowling using an electric hand mixer on medium-low speed for about 20 seconds.
- Stir in the egg and vanilla.
- Add the flour mixture in three batches alternating with about half of the milk. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to mix and fold after each addition.
- Divide the mixture into greased donut pans. Fill each pan about full.
- Bake for 7 to 9 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the donut comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and allow them to cool for 5 minutes before removing them from the pans.
- To make the glaze, whisk all of the glaze ingredients together.
- Spread the glaze over each donut. Top with hazelnuts and allow the glaze to set at room temperature.
Biscuit Donuts
These donuts are slightly easier because you dont have to make your own dough. Instead, fry biscuit dough and add this great chocolate glaze.
Yields: Makes 12 Donuts.
Ingredients:
2 canisters of biscuit dough
Oil for frying
For the Glaze:
cup of butter
cup of whole milk
2 tablespoons of light corn syrup
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
3 ounces of dark chocolate
1 cups of powdered sugar
Method of Preparation:
- Cut holes in each biscuit using a small biscuit cutter or small lid. Discard the holes or make donut holes out of them.
- Fry the donuts in oil that is about 350 F. Fry in batches for 2 or 3 minutes on each side.
- Remove the donuts to a plate or try covered with a layer of paper towels to drain the oil. Allow the donuts to cool.
- To make the glaze, heat a small pot over medium heat.
- Combine the butter and milk, and stir until melted.
- Add the vanilla, corn syrup, and chocolate. Stir until completely melted.
- Remove from heat, and add the powdered sugar cup at a time.
- Dip the donuts into the glaze. Add sprinkles, if desired.
Brownie Donuts with Peanut Butter Glaze
These donuts might be more like rich brownies than they are donuts. When they are topped with this great peanut butter glaze, they make the perfect dessert. Top these with chocolate sprinkles or chocolate chips to make them look as good as they taste.
Yields: Makes 12 Donuts.
Ingredients:
8 ounces of Bittersweet Chocolate, chopped
1 stick of unsalted butter (room temperature)
4 eggs
1 cup of sugar
cup of dark brown sugar
1 cup of all-purpose flour
1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
teaspoon of baking powder
teaspoon of Kosher salt
For the Glaze:
1 cups of powdered sugar
4 tablespoons of smooth peanut butter
4 tablespoons of whole milk
1 teaspoons of real vanilla extract
Sprinkles, chopped peanuts, or toasted coconut, for topping (optional)
Method of Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 325 F. Prep the donut pan by spraying with cooking spray.
- Set the chocolate and the butter in a sauce pan and melt over low heat. Stir often.
- Remove from heat when it is melted, and stir in the sugars. Stir and set aside.
- Sift the dry ingredients, and set aside.
