Introduction
Those days of leisure are gone, when the womenfolk of the family spent hours and hours in the kitchen, thinking up recipes, after collecting all the ingredients present in the cellar or in the garden. That was when they were going to use their creativity in order to make up hearty, nourishing meals for the whole family.
In fact, in olden times, it was the responsibility of one particular person to cook for the whole family, and she would not be bothered with other duties. That was because everybody knew that her forte was cooking and she was happy, cooking in the kitchen, brewing up recipes, contacting her friends for new tips and techniques, concocting some marvelous surprises and some fabulous failures, and so on. And the full family appreciated this effort on her part.
Times changed, and the joint families started to go nuclear in the 20 th and 21 st century. Instead of a full family living together and eating together and playing together and praying together, many families started moving away from the main family and setting up their own households.
Even today, teaching members of the younger generation how to cook or prepare food items is an important part of family traditions all over the world.
So there they were, one or two in a family until of course the family group grew in numbers. With the passing of the years, this began to be more of a trend, and a rule instead of the exception.
With more and more technical development and better chances of finding jobs or employment opportunities away from a natal village or a city, more and more youngsters began moving away to lands, of which their forefathers had only dreamt. Consider this the enterprising and adventurous spirit. Also consider this the chance of spreading your own wings, but all on your ownsome.
After the Second World War, when the females of the family who normally were preserved and protected by the other members of the family until they were given away in marriage both in the East and in the West found that conventions and traditions were changing slowly so as to give them more opportunities to leave the family nest and strike out on their own.
So many of these young girls who had learned all about independence in Two World Wars, learnt that it was easy for them to pick up more better paying jobs in the city far away from their town. And so they had to learn to fend for themselves, especially when it was their responsibility to feed themselves, clothe themselves and keep themselves healthy.
Cooking for Just One and Two
In the 60s 70s, young adults had learned that living on their own, away from their families was not something scary, especially when they had other friends of their own age group around them. They shared lodgings and finances. They also made up a budget, in which all their paychecks would go in order to keep their household running smoothly.
In the 2000s, these young swingers took living on their own for granted. The moment they had left the family nest, and had flown away hunting new horizons in all corners of the globe, they could rest assured that they would never go hungry. That was because all they had to do was pick up their favorite take away meals while coming back from work or classes, or just have their favorite meals dropped off at their doorsteps from their favorite corner take away shop.
Nevertheless, many of these youngsters learn to fend for themselves, because they were health-conscious. They knew that it was necessary to eat nutritive meals, with plenty of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, hats, proteins and other natural ingredients which were necessary to keep their bodies working properly and well. They could not afford to fall sick, and possibly lose their jobs.
Microwave Cookery Insta-Cooking
This book is definitely not going to sing the praises of microwave cooking, which is a shortcut and is avoided by any serious cook worth his or her salt.
Also this book is for all those people who just hate cooking for one or two, because it is such an effort. All the recipes for cooking for one or two, which they find online are so bland and blah.
This book is also for all those people who need to be told when to eat, because they are always on the go. There are perpetually beating the clock, because they have deadlines, they have to catch a train, bus, or drive to their office, they have a meeting coming up, or any such excuse, which meets the situation. All these are ways to avoid cooking and these people soon get into the habit of cutting out on meals, either, just because they do not want to cook them or it is much easier sending out for Sweet and sour pork, or Stirfry With Vegetables.
For them, of course, the microwave is A Boon and a Godsend. But are they getting enough of healthy nourishment from these mass-produced fast to cook dinners, which they just pick up off the shelves, pop into the microwave, allow to sizzle for about a minute or so, and then eat on the run while searching for their keys, their cell phones, their tablet and other office related paraphernalia?
So if you have the inclination to enjoy this beat the clock cookery, especially when you are cooking for one or two people, you may want to use the tips and techniques given here.
Why Beat the Clock Cookery
I will be very trite here and say that many of us are clock watchers. Our life is bound to the two hands of a clock, ticking away relentlessly, and binding us to a schedule. So for many of us spending some time in the kitchen is definitely not a viable option, especially when we are bound to tight schedules.
The time limit for these dishes is 30 minutes. Why am I not giving you recipes which can be cooked within 5 to 10 minutes? That is because the items which are going to be cooked here need to be cooked with care, especially when you are preparing a healthy meal.
