Introduction

LUST IS CONSIDERED one of the seven deadly sins. In the olden days, it was the general term used to describe desire for anything fame, glory, money, material things, power, sex the list goes on.

In our modern context, lust tends to refer to strong sexual desire or, as one website puts it, an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body. It is in this context that this book is written. In recent years, there appears to have been an increasing number of cases (if they can be called that) where the pleasures of the flesh have caused some to stray in their marriages, some to cross the lines of decency and some to challenge the accepted norms.

While this book is part of a crime series, some of the people highlighted in this anthology have not been charged, and depending on the perspective, may not even be guilty of a crime. But lust, in one way or another, played a part in who they are and what they did.

CASE 1

Breaking the Mould: Annabel Chong

IN THE MID-1990s, the Internet was still considered to be in its infancy. Events that occurred on one side of the globe did not get such an instantaneous response as they do today. Thus when the pornographic film The Worlds Biggest Gangbang was released in 1995, there was hardly a ripple around the world. It was virtually unknown in Singapore, where it is illegal to distribute pornographic material. However, when its related documentary Sex: The Annabel Chong Story was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize in the Documentary category at the Sundance Film Festival in 1999, people began to sit up and take notice. When it came to light that the subject of the documentary hailed from Singapore, the people in the city-state started to ask, who is Annabel Chong?

WHOS THAT GIRL?

Annabel Chong was a pornographic actress in America with the distinction of being ranked by Complex Magazine as number 41 on The Top 50 Hottest Asian Porn Stars of All Time list. Chong made a name for herself when she became the first female to have sex with 251 men in the space of 10 hours back in 1995. This was a world record at the time and her feat was captured on film and marketed as a porn movie called The Worlds Biggest Gangbang.

Unknown to many, Annabel Chong was the stage name of Grace Quek, a Singaporean who lived in the United States and built a career in the adult film industry. Quek was born in 1972, the only daughter of a schoolteacher and a piano teacher. She attended a convent school in her early years and excelled enough to get into the Gifted Education Programme. She then attended Hwa Chong Junior College, one of the top schools in the country. As a young girl, she was said to be studious and quiet. She finished her A-levels and decided to take three years off. During this time, she spent a year in the United States. Despite the break, she was awarded a scholarship to study law at Kings College in London.

Her parents were elated and off to the United Kingdom she went. One day, she met a man on the train and agreed to have sex with him in an alleyway. Unfortunately, while they were there, more men showed up and she was gang-raped, robbed and left to fend for herself. This incident had a deep impact on her. She decided to give up law and moved back to the United States to pursue a different line of study. Her good grades allowed her to get into the University of Southern California, where she took classes in art, photography and gender studies. It came as no surprise to those who knew her that she would excel academically.

As excited as Queks parents were about her getting into law school, they were equally disappointed when she dropped out. Without her scholarship, Quek had to find some way to finance herself. She stumbled across an advertisement in the papers looking for models with no experience. It turned out to be a casting couch for an adult film company. She took it in her stride and gamely took off her clothes for the camera. This was her first encounter with John Bowen, who went by the professional name of John T Bone. He immediately recognised Queks X-factor and began casting her in a series of porn movies.

This was when Quek became Annabel Chong, her persona in a series of sexcapades on film. She was said to have never tried anal sex before but once she did, she enjoyed it so much that she wanted more. She liked it so much that she pioneered a triple penetration of a different kind: one penis in her vagina and two in her anus. Between 1994 and 1995, Chong acted in at least 15 adult films, including I Cant Believe I Did the Whole Team!, Depraved Fantasies 3 and Whats a Nice Girl Like You Doing in an Anal Movie?
