Story Behind the Book
I was preparing a message on lust when I realized that the book I wanted to consult hadnt been written. That book would make it clear that only Jesus Christ can free us from the hopeless treadmill of shame and guilt that so many well-intentioned people end up on. It would instill a love for holiness and a hatred for sin without dragging the readers imagination through the gutter. And it would be for both men and women, because Ive learned that lust isnt just a guy problemits a human problem.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT
SEX IS NOT THE PROBLEM (LUST IS)
BY JOSHUA HARRIS

This is a timely book. Josh boldly deals with the strongest attacks on young men and women today. Its hard to be Gods man or Gods woman when we continually feel and experience the failures of our sinful nature. This book is a practical call to personal holiness. I am happy to endorse such an endeavor.

The main issue with lust is that it hinders us from seeing and savoring the glory of Christ. That hurts us and dishonors Him. So, for your joy and Christs honor, I commend this book to you. It is realistic, practical, and hope-giving because of uncompromising grace. The pure in heart will see God. If you want that sight, let Josh Harris help you fight.

A NOTE FROM SHANNON

B oth Josh and I believe its important to state from the outset that it was the hard work of Brian Smith that made this study guide possible. After Josh wrote Sex Is Not the Problem (Lust Is), Brian took the time to both create the format of this study guide and write the questions. As youll see, he has done a terrific job. My role was to add a feminine touch by writing an introduction for each chapter. But Brian did the majority of the work, and for that Im very grateful.

Introduction

I f youre a woman who has decided to use this study guide for Sex Is Not the Problem (Lust Is), I want to wholeheartedly applaud you. Contrary to what most of the world believes, lust is not just a guy problem; it is a human problema sin problemand no one, male or female, single or married, is exempt from its snares. It takes humility to admit that you struggle with lust. But let me assure you that you are not the only woman to face this struggle. Even though Im happily married, I am not above the temptations of lust. I must still guard my heart and mind as diligently as ever.

This study guide is designed for women who are serious about helping each other grow in holiness. Its designed to help us open an often hidden part of our lives for honest and godly discussion about female sexuality. Our sexuality is a beautiful and sacred gift from God. We want to be both thankful for it and respectful of Gods commands to be pure. This study will challenge you to apply the principles of Sex Is Not the Problem (Lust Is) in your daily lives in order to guide you into the safety and joy of purity

WHO CAN USE IT?

The Sex Is Not the Problem (Lust Is) Study Guide for Women is extremely versatile. It can be used in a group setting or individually. However, it is designed primarily for two or more women who want to work through the book together. Whether this is a group of three girlfriends that meets weekly at a coffee shop or a dozen women in a Sunday school class, this guide can be adapted to meet your needs.

There are different ways for a group to use it. One option is for each member to have her own copy of the study guide and to work through the appropriate lesson on her own before each meeting, writing her answers and then coming to the meeting ready to share. (This is ideal, since it encourages each woman to think through answers more carefully.)
