We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Airfields & Airmen Cambrai" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

This latest book on the Airfields & Airmen of the First World War covers the earliest days of the RFC with the retreat from Mons. We visit the graves of Fokker Eindecker aces and the airfields where the first Jastas were formed. Also covered are airfields from which Allied aces such as Beauchamp Proctor VC flew and there is a visit to the American cemetery at Bony that contains a number of aviators.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

The Airfields and Airmen books would not be possible without the help of many friends who give freely of their time and material.

One feature of the series is their balanced nature, where there is almost as much coverage of the German side of things as of the Allied. This would be impossible without the enormous help and encyclopaedic knowledge of Alex Imrie who, in addition, provides the many rare photographs.

I would like to thank Jon Wilkinson of Pen and Sword, who has done another splendid job on the book layout and Nigel Cave for his introduction.

My next thanks have to go to the unprotesting members of Jasta 99, Richard Owen, Jim Davies and Barry Gray. They put up with my requests for proofreading, and translation, and end up out of pocket. Fortunately Barry was able to keep his breakfast down this year while taking the aerial shots!

I would also like to thank the following: Colin Ashford GavA for his splendid cover illustration; Paul Baillie; Pierre Ben; the late Elizabeth Brandwood; Ann and Richard Brandwood; the Commonwealth War Graves Commission; Sue Cox; Murielle Defrenne of the Somme American Cemetery; Norman Franks; the German War Graves Commission; Hal Giblin; Barry Greenwood; Christine Gregory, latterly of the RAF Museum; Dieter Grschel, Tim Harper; Trevor Henshaw; Phil Jarrett; Andy Jillings and Maria Gloria; Peter Kilduff; Jrgen Ladek; Stuart Leslie for his great help with photographs; Bob Lynes; Joe Michie; Simon Moody, also latterly of the RAF Museum, for permission to quote from the A E Borton, H M le Brock, Louis Strange, W R Read, G W Mapplebeck, H P Lloyd, and Joubert papers; the staff of the Public Record Office; Keith Rennles; George and Susanna Roland; Otis Reed; Ray Sanger, the staff of the Service Historique de lArme delAir; Stewart K Taylor; Colin Waugh; Jean Verdel and Peter and Sarah Wright

Every effort has been made to contact the authors of the various books or articles quoted and their copyright is acknowledged.
