I t is funny how time mellows your thinking. After writing my first book three years ago, I said I would never write another book again. I learnt much from that experience and writing this second book has been more enjoyable. Thank you to Katy Hamilton at Kogan Page for reaching out to me with the idea for this book initially, I am glad you did.
Writing this book would not have been possible without the support and understanding of Sara, Bethany, Kelly, Joseph, mum and dad during the long hours and lost weekends spent researching and writing. Thank you.
There are a number of people who have been very helpful and without whom many of the examples and stories would have gone untold. So in no particular order I would like to thank the following people for their help, assistance, referrals and content they have provided that have allowed me to write the book I wanted to write: Tim Barry, Dave Martin, Mark Rice, Paul Powell, Marc Mapes, Matt Alder, Andr Hellstrm, Paul Jacobs, Peter Gold, Mark Sumner, Chris Russell, Steve Ward, Natasha Collopy, the team at Social Samosa, Shahid Wazed, Amybeth Quinn, Katharine Robinson, Kelly Dingee, Sarang Brahme, Jim Stroud, Oscar Mager, Shannon Pritchett, Martin Lee, Jonathan Campbell, Brett Minchington, Brenda Rigney, Gerry Crispin, Mark Sawyer, Clair Bush, Matthew Ferree, Terry Starr, Pete Kazanjy and Neil Morrison.
Maybe it wont be another three years until the next book.
S ocial media in the workplace can be scary and confusing for many people within human resources (HR) and recruitment, mainly due to a lack of knowledge and understanding of how it works. As you will see in this book, social media has now become mainstream in our everyday life, with thousands of social networks available to everyone across the world. Now, in 2015, it is at the point where there is probably a social network for every facet of our lives. We check them the moment we wake up, via our mobile devices, and we are never far away from all the messages, updates and tweets until we go to bed we have all become slaves to the digital world around us.
