Foreword
So, Im at this Altadena Tea Party. Im late, and standing in the driveway on my cell phone talking to my 24-year-old married daughter, Scarlet, who is smack-dab in the middle of a crisisher recently diagnosed ectopic pregnancy which is now making her fallopian tube explode. She is in Miami on the way to a hospital where she will eventually have three blood transfusions. Im holding my ukulele and trying to decide whether to sing my new song, Theres a Communist Living in the White House, at this Tea Party, or take the first flight to Florida and comfort my baby in her moment of need. A tall, handsome guy is bounding toward me smiling exuberantly and saying, Did you hear my song? I look at the stranger and say, What?
So, Im in this driveway in the most crucial moment of my young daughters life and Im trying to decide whether to save my baby or save my country. I cant really save Scarletonly God and the doctors can do that. Um.
I say a prayer and wait for some direction. Ill fly to Florida after the Tea Party. My other daughter, the teenager, is lying on the hood of our car reading a book called My Life is Fed. (I am unaware of its content.)
Chris Cassone, the tall, handsome stranger with the ebullient smile leads me to the back door of the charming cottage that is packed with people.
I stand smushed in the back. I had asked Jonathan Wilson of Pasadena Patriots ahead of time if he would video my song, so we could put the song on the Internet and get the message out there as soon as possible. Urgency is the feeling.
Our country is being destroyed from within, and only a fraction of the American public is even aware of this. The masses were duped into a trendy, racially saturated campaign and voted for a man they knew nothing about, thanks to the mainstream media, which has been going liberal for years and in 2008 decided to just go full-out propaganda. Why wasnt Obamas pastincluding his Marxist childhood, Marxist college years, and Marxist Chicago adulthood including Ayres, Jarret, Acorn, Alinsky and close friend and advisor, Jeremiah Wrightthoroughly exposed on one of those in-depth things, 60 Minutes or whatever? Nope! The TV has become Orwells 1984, and most people are too lazy to even look up that reference.
When its my turn to sing, I give the paper with the lyrics to an elderly woman wearing a hat with flowers on it. I havent learned the words yet. The crowd cheers and it feels great to be understood. I am not alone.
A few days later, my new friend, Chris Cassone, emails me a link to his Web site where a video of my song taken from his cell phone, unaware to me, has gotten 2,000 hits so far. I am horrified. The video is a close-up of my double chin in profile. Who is this guy? His enthusiasm must be contained! I immediately have it taken off the Internet and this is my first Chris Cassone experience. Jonathan Wilson and Jim Riley post a more flattering and professional rendition of Theres a Communist Living in the White House and it goes viral. Hey, wheres my book deal?
My next Chris Cassone experience is in Los Angeles. After working with Pasadena Patriots, Chris comes to my home to help me with my Web site. He has his guitar. He plays a few of his original patriotic songs and tears come to my eyes. I ask him how he changed from a political activist liberal to a political activist conservative and he tells me the wonderful story you are about to read.
Epilogue My third Chris Cassone experience is in Washington D.C., on April 15, 2010. I give a speech and sing my song to a huge crowd at Freedom Plaza with the Tea Party Express. Chris pops out of the crowd with his wonderful smile. He is scheduled to sing his hit, Take Our Country Back at the nighttime Tea Party event in front of the Washington Monument. I really wish Id been invited to that one. He asks me to be his back up singer.
But, I dont know the words, I say.
Just repeat after me, he says smiling.
I say, Okay.
He gets me backstage and this is a really, big event. Ive never seen anything like it. Knowingly, Chris had gotten me into a situation where the Freedom Works people were literally bumping into me. After a while, they realize Im semi-famous and ask me to do four or five minutes. I say, Why yes, okay, and I just happen to have my ukulele with me!
Because of Chris, I get to sing my song in front of the massive crowd who shouts along with me, Theres a Communist Living in the White House! while I tilt my head toward the White House behind me. The Washington Monument is in front of me. My heart swells with this newfound pride for my country, the land of the free and the brave, where you can peacefully disagree with the government and not be killed or jailed. Although, this new administration has us all a little on edgeall the more reason to protest, speak out and change it.
Now, its time for Chriss anthem. The sun is setting its golden rose glow across the thousands of patriotic faces and red, white and blue flags. I take a photo of him singing and then stumble (fake) my way through his lovely song. I am the backup singer. A few people on the front row can tell I dont know the song yet, but thats okay. Were all in this together. We are just trying to Take Our Country Back.
Chriss passionate patriotism reflects that of millions of us Tea Partiers who proudly wear this label as a symbol of love for our country. We have just rediscovered our blessed America, like a man who finally notices the magnificent roses growing in his backyard. Many of us have taken our freedoms for granted because we were born with them. We have not been the greatest country in the world by accident. We have not given the lives of our young men and women all across the world in vain. There is a reason we are the first responders to any country in need. We had Gods love in our hearts and His power at our side. We need to repent and humbly ask Him to come back into our hearts and stand next to our side. Chriss book is important because it is a piece of history. His story of a youth sucked into the popular liberal lie, and the reason and maturity that woke him up to truth, is our storyan American story. Chris is our everyman. He is you. He is me. Although we must lay down our pride to say it, we need God.

(P.S.: My daughter, Scarlet, has healed from her tragedy. She is presently enjoying a very, healthy pregnancy and my first grandchild is due on Christmas Day. I think we should name the baby Freedom.)
