For Sin
I am very grateful to the many people from whom I have learned about global health over the last decade and more. They include in no particular order: Francis Omaswa, Miriam Were, Eldryd Parry, Julio Frenk, Felicia Knaul, Tim Evans, Lincoln Chen, Ilona Kickbusch, Mark Dybul, Susana Edjang, Paul Farmer, Srinath Reddy, Richard Horton, Peter Piot, Ariel Pablos-Mendez, Anne Mills, Bience Gawanas, Don Berwick, Maureen Bisognano, Pierre Barker, Richard Scheffler, Meg Kellogg, Mark Britnell and many others as well as colleagues and friends at the UKs Departments for International Development and Health, Caroline Harper and colleagues at Sightsavers and Andy Leather and colleagues at Kings College London.
For this book I am particularly grateful to the people who have written the regional and country commentaries which bring all the key themes to life and to the people who have advised me on specific topics and chapters. These include: Dr. Kambiz Boomla and Dr. Paula Baraister on .
Niamh Herlihy worked very effectively as my researcher for the first half of the book whilst Vanessa Halipi and Johanna Riha contributed through reading and advising.
My publishers: Jo Koster and Julia Molloy and Nora Naughton; all made sure the book was presentable and professional.
Finally, and above all, my thanks go to my wife Sin for her constant support and illuminating insights. The book is so much better for her help.
