Introduction

A Flashback in Time

The cool brisk New England wind blew smoothly through my silky dark brown hair as I eagerly approached the massive 33-year-old brick building before me. With each step I took the radiating sun warmly invigorated my excited body giving me a burst of exhilaration and energy.

Todays the day. I whispered aloud to myself. Its gonna be perfect!

For weeks Id been planning this morning out. Id thought of every last detail and obsessed over every possible component to what I was going to do. My goal, no dream was to get her to say yes.

Her, was Sarah Callahan. Sarah was the perfect girl for me. She was a very pretty brunette with long shiny hair. She was as sweet as pie and as nice as honey. She had that girl-next-door look but at the same time had that incredibly-sexy-with-little-effort look too. She didnt even have to try to be beautiful, she just was

Yes, was to the question I had for Sarah to go to the Junior Prom with me. I wanted to ask her to the Prom, and I wanted to make her my girlfriend thereafter!

I wanted Sarah desperately! With every word she uttered I fell more and more in love with her.

We shared the same biology class and wed often be partnered up to do assignments together. Every time we got together to do work it literally made my day. Id be flushed with simultaneous feelings of yearning and lust.

Wed laugh together, tell jokes, talk about everything in life that came up, and wed still manage to get the work done. She showed all the signs that she liked me as much as I did her. Shed laugh with me, smile when Id talk, keep the conversations fun and entertaining, and always ask me questions about my life outside of school.

Yes, she loved me just as I loved her, and this was going to be perfect. Id been waiting my whole life for this moment, and I was ready for my love and I to finally end all of our superficial games. I was ready to express my true desires for her and I was eager to receive hers in return!

I walked into my high school on cloud nine. I knew where my love waited before the bell rang for first period and I made my way over to her hall.

I was in the zone at this point and remember nothing but my feeling of utter joy. I dont recall passing anyone or talking to anyonemy mind was occupied only on Sarah.

I spotted her a few minutes later talking to her two best friends whom she always hung around. Yet another jolt of excitement coursed through my veins. The mere sight of her sent shivers down my spine and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I was so ready for this moment!

As I glided through the air and inched closer to her, my heart pounding through my shirt, I took a deep, slow breath. My nerves were frantic and I didnt want to sound too anxious

I got within about 10 feet of her and I cleared my throat and readied myself to deliver my life-altering line. This was it! I thought to myself

And just as I opened my mouth and came into her line of sight, she jumped up in the air and shouted Woah! in surprise.

She turned around and started laughing, and then did something that broke my heart and my dream in the same horrifying instantshe kissed another guy!

The other guy was a former friend of mine from grade school. This guy was a former friend because he was a complete jerk. He was selfish, dishonest, rude, disloyal, and arrogant. And yet girls seemed to love him!

He broke all the rules Id ever learned about how to treat girls, yet they all seemed to fall for him. I wondered what he did, and why they ever loved him, but I could never figure it out. I hated this guy with every bone in my body. And I hated him now even more.

Hed snuck up on my dream-girl and slapped her in the butt on that fateful day. He beat my approach by just a split second (probably for the better as I found out later that shed been dating this douche for a week before that) and completely deflated all of the wind from my energetic proposition.

I immediately turned around and slid away in defeat. I felt worse than awful. I felt like Id just gotten sucker punched in the gut by Mike Tyson. I could hardly breathe.

I dont remember the rest of that school day at all. I just remember being numb. And I remember going home and being even number.

I was so hurt. (I didnt eat for a week after that!) I really thought this girl was the one . She was so perfect for me in every way. She was nice, sweet, beautifuleverything Id ever wanted!

But she belonged to someone else. And not just anyone, but someone I completely hated. A complete jerk who I knew was no good for her and who I knew would treat her like crap.

That night in my room I contemplated a lot of things. Why is life so unfair? Why cant I get girls to like me? Why does being a jerk get guys women? Why cant someone like me get someone as awesome as Sarah? I said aloud in despair. Frustrated and depressed I gave in to my thoughts. And then I cried.

I knew I had to change something in my life. I knew what I was doing with women wasnt working at the time. I knew I had to get this part of my life down, I just didnt know how yet

What It Means to Be Shy

Bang! Thats the sound a gun makes when someone pulls the trigger. It happens all the time throughout America and throughout the world. For any number of reasons, people kill each other. Murder, rape, robberyall of these violent actions take place on a daily basis, like clockwork.
