Dear friend,
When I was just 3 years old, I knew what I wanted to do when I grew up - Play Professional Football. It was a clear dream to me and I worked my butt off to earn a scholarship to play at the University of Northern Colorado(Go Bears!).
We would spend an entire week preparing for our upcoming opponent. We would watch film on the other team to discover tendencies, strengths, weaknesses and how we could game-plan to win. We would rehearse plays Each day, we practiced and prepared for 3-4 hours a day as we game-planned to go to battle on game day.
We would spend an entire week preparing for a 2.5 hour game. You heard that right. We would plan and prep for an entire week just to play one game that lasted as long as a movie. We knew that in order to execute our game plan, we had to plan and prepare, both mentally and physically, so we could execute on game day.
If we didnt prepare well, we didnt play well. When we prepared well, we played well - plain and simple.
I remember one year, we were playing one of the top ranked Division 2 teams in the nation, North Dakota State University. It was a nationally televised game, and our team was just beginning to gel, but we had a slow start to the season and werent going to the playoffs. I was a 1st Team All-Conference wide- receiver (One of the players who catches balls from a Quarterbackjust in case you didnt know).
I remember every detail of that week. I watched hours of game film, identifying patterns and tendencies that I could expose during the game. I became very skilled in running double-move routes and I noticed that their defensive backs were susceptible to them. A double-move is where I fake like Im going one direction, and go into another. Also, they mostly played inside technique, which means his body position favored my inside leg during each play. I also ran a sharp 12 yard square out pattern, where I sprint straight at my opponent and make a sharp 90 degree outside turn to catch the ball.
That gave me another advantage and I remember talking to our Head Coach, Coach Dalton about it. We added it to the game plan. Theres a route called a pump route that we added to the game-plan. The pump was a double move, built on the square out. Remember the square out is the 12-yard outside turn route, and the pump route fakes the outside turn and then arrows upfield toward the end-zone. So I would fake the square out and head to the post.
We watched film all week long. Wed practice and rehearse plays for 3 hours per day. We would run drills specific to the game-plan. From Sunday through Friday, we would plan for a 3-hour game on Saturday.
Our plan was to run square-out route throughout the whole game, and when we needed it, we would run the pump route as a bate and hook strategy. We got their defensive backs used to trying to cover me running that route, and then in the 4th quarter, as we were losing 13-10, and we needed a big touchdown, we called the pump route.
I had my steps timed out and on my 6th step, I faked the out route with a precision 3 steps. The defensive back who was covering me bit on it - hook, line and sinker. I planted my left foot on the 3rd step and took off toward the end-zoneas I looked back for the pass, I saw the football coming toward me in slow motion. It was a perfect pass from Jon Boyer and I easily caught the football and ran in for a touchdown! With that touchdown, we moved ahead 17-13 and won the game.
This was one of my biggest games of the year - 10 catches, 215 yards and the winning touchdown. We werent supposed to win that game. We had an average record, and we were playing the #6 ranked team in the nation. They came in talking trash, and assuming the win. We showed up ready to execute our game-plan. And on that 8sunny Saturday in October 2001 at Nottingham Field in Greeley, Colorado, we executed our game-plan to victory.
If youre failing to plan,
youre planning to fail.
Thomas Edison
If you are going to have The Greatest Year of Your Life in the next 12-months and beyond, you have to be willing to game-plan, strategize and prepare for it to happen. If our football team just went out and played without preparing, we would have gotten our asses kicked by our opponent.
In life, YOU are your opponent. You are the only person who is powerful enough to stop you and if you dont learn how to master your mind, break free from destructive emotions and motivate yourself to action, youll never achieve your goals and dreams.
Your goals arent going to achieve themselves. Its not going to happen by chance. Youre not going to accidentally crush your goals and create kick-ass growth and momentum in your life - You have to be willing to game-plan for it and take the necessary action.
Thats what this book is made for. To help you get clear on your goals, remove the internal obstacles and move yourself to action, so you can avoid being at the effect of another year with no meaningful change. To help you step into the Greatest Year of Your Life.
You cant stop it. Another year will pass you by. The question is, what are you going to do about it?
Im rooting for you,
- George
Whatever the Fuck it Takes - Explained
Whatever the Fuck it Takes is a mindset. Its simple, its about never giving up . Its about persisting in the face of fear. Its about rising above your limits. Its about tapping into your God given potential and building your life from that place. I believe we are all born with unique purpose and that were here to imprint something unique into the world. Its no accident that every human on the planet has a unique fingerprint. Part of our job in life is to discover what that purpose is and then spend our lives living into it.
"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.
Mark Twain
Whatever the Fuck it Takes is about finding your version of happiness. Its about living in alignment with your values. Its about finding what lights you up. Its about quieting the external world so you can hear your own inner voice. Its about taking BIG action toward meaningful goals. Its about giving back. Its about serving others. Its about finding success and fulfillment.
Success without fulfillment is the ultimate failure.
Tony Robbins
It doesnt mean being an ass-hole to get what you want. Its about quieting your ego and living from your heart. Its about going after meaningful goals so you become a greater version of you. Setting goals isnt about achieving them. Its about becoming the person you must become in order to achieve them.
The goal is secondary. The growth is primary.
Its about being kind, but not taking shit from others. Its about loving yourself and those closest to you. Its about not accepting your excuses. Its about taking 100% ownership for the results in your life. Ultimately, its about becoming your most badass and enlightened self in this lifetime. None of us really knows whats beyond this life, so why not go after our dreams?
