PREFACE
In 1992 I was a human resources executive with one of the premiere retailing companies in the country, Dayton Hudson. Some years before that I earned a Ph.D. in organizational psychology and paid my dues working up the corporate ladder at Hewlett-Packard. I was earning a six-figure salary, living on a hillside in San Francisco, and spending every weekend at a lovely home in the Napa Valley.
