Praise for SELF TO LOSE SELF TO FIND A thoughtful and groundbreaking analysis - photo 1
Praise for SELF TO LOSE, SELF TO FIND

A thoughtful and groundbreaking analysis of the Enneagram system and its valuable contribution to the work of development in the Christian life.

D AVID D ANIELS , MD, developer of the Enneagram in the Narrative Tradition, and co-author of The Essential Enneagram

In a society strapped to self-sufficiency, it is rare to find Enneagram wisdom that is truly wise. Marilyn Vancil brings together our being and our becoming, hidden not simply in the depths of our own selves but in the heart of Christ.

K. J. R AMSEY , therapist and author of This Too Shall Last

I started Marilyns book as a skeptic because I had lost my way in my relationship with Jesus long before I read it. I was steeped in doubt and disappointment, believing I no longer needed God in my life. Yet I felt intrigued by the notion of Jesus and the Enneagram. I experienced Jesus in this book as I had not in a long time. Self to Lose, Self to Find pointed me back to my faith. Quickly, as my heart was opened, my relationship with Jesus was renewed, and became once again full and flowing.

A HSHUA B OLTON , Enneagram teacher

An exceptional book.

B ETH M C C ORD , founder of Your Enneagram Coach; author of The Enneagram Collection and co-author of Becoming Us

Marilyn, with theological insight and eloquence, has built a bridge that wonderfully connects Biblical teachings with the clean, concise patterns of the Enneagram. This book is both practical and thought-provoking, especially for the Christian seeking to be a better follower of Jesus. Her fresh insights will prove an exciting pathway into the ancient words of Scripture for students of the Enneagram.

T HE R EVEREND D OYT L. C ONN , Jr., rector, Epiphany of Seattle

If youve been hearing about the Enneagram and want to understand how it applies to you as well as to your family and friends, you will love this book! You will find transformational tools that will help you find clarity and direction as you embrace the unique person God created you to be.

J ACKIE G REEN , co-founder, Museum of the Bible; co-author of Only One Life,This Dangerous Book, and Legacy

Clear, concise, winsome, and wise access into the fascinating world of the Enneagram.

P ATRICIA S ITTSER , RN, LMHC, and mental health counselor, and J ERRY S ITTSER , P H D, professor of theology, Whitworth University, and author of A Grace Disguised

Self to Lose, Self to Find is my go-to recommendation for anyone who asks for a book about the Enneagram. This book is potent, clear, comprehensive, and applicable, and its a must-have for anyone wanting to get the most out of the Enneagram.

M ICHAEL C RAWFORD, Enneagram consultant

Are you a person of faith who is skeptical of the Enneagram? You are not alone! I was initially hesitant about a trendy tool that appeared to reduce Gods vast creation into merely nine personality types. It wasnt until I read Marilyns fresh angle, rooted in Scripture, that I was willing to dive deeper into the unknown so many have come to use as a source of healing. Marilyn invites us to consider whats underneath our own false narratives in hopes of finding our redeemed storyline through the grander narrative of the Gospel. She gently directs us to find movement in our life through self-discovery and by naming our lens, which helps us remember who we were made to be in His image.

M EREDITH McD ANIEL , licensed professional counselor at Milk + Honey Counseling, author of In Want + Plenty

Marilyn Vancil weaves three threadsbiblical story, Enneagram wisdom, and real-life experiencesinto this compelling and essential resource for those who long for a more free and fruitful life. This grounded, hands-on offering is a rare gift indeed!

John Kiemele, PhD, wellbeing educator and spiritual director

Self to Lose, Self to Find is for the serious seeker who is hungry to engage the Enneagram for transformation. Marilyn Vancil speaks from deep experience and gracious invitation.

G EM F ADLING, co - author of What Does Your Soul Love?

The deeper journey of transformation requires an understanding of the dynamics of the true and false self.Self to Lose, Self to Find will be your compass, trail guide, and companion on this journey. Required reading.

FOREWORD

I am still surprised at how many times I am asked the question, So what do you think about the Enneagram? We have been teaching the Enneagram as a tool for transformation in the Transforming Center for over fifteen years, and my answer is always the same: the Enneagram is a tool God can use to aid us in the spiritual process of self-examination, leading to greater self-knowledge and confession on the way to spiritual transformation. These practices are at the heart of the spiritual transformation journey. But sometimes we need categories and handles that help us to name not only the negative and unfruitful behaviors in our lives but also the deeply entrenched patterns that drive those behaviors. I am always careful to add that the Enneagram is not the only such tool, but it is certainly one I have found most effective.
