introduction
Youre in the bookstore or shopping online and youre considering buying this book. You picked it up because something bothers you about the way you look. You may not be fully aware of what it is. You just know that you are not particularly fond of mirrors these days.
So youre holding this book and a part of your brain is telling you, Buy it! Its the answer. It will make me young again! Ill erase five years overnight! Another part of your brain is telling you, This is garbage. Theres no way anything can help me. I need plastic surgery.
Which thought will you listen to? I hope you choose the first over the second. Thats the thought I chose to listen to when I first met Dr. Jeannette Graf, and she did not disappoint. Her program works. You will look younger overnight and transformed in two weeks. Your skin will be brighter, smoother, and softer than it has been in years. You will feel dramatically younger and happier, too. I know, because I do.
Her program is based on science, science that is perfectly valid but not well known outside the field of medicine. It uses specific eating prescriptions, supplements, and lifestyle suggestions to slow cellular aging everywhere inside the bodyincluding in the cells that make up the skin. By alkalinizing cellular fluids, improving digestion, and increasing the production and effectiveness of specific brain chemicals, the program creates a glow and radiance that no amount of money can buy. Dr. Grafs program also involves the use of effective yet affordable skin care products that brighten, soften, smooth, and beautify the skin from the outside in.
The first time I spoke with Dr. Graf, I was struggling to keep my life together. I was a working mom of an eight-month-old daughter (now shes two and a half). I was married to a man who had recently started a new business and was working twelve-hour days, seven days a week (now he occasionally takes a day off, and works ten-hour days instead). I was nursing, and my daughter had me up every two hours at night. She was also frequently sick and extremely distrustful of all other adults. If someone else tried to hold her so I could relax, she screamed.
Needless to say, I felt dreadful and looked the same. My hair was falling out. My eyes were ringed with dark circles. My complexion was pale and flaky. My cheeks were mottled with uneven brownish splotches known as chloasma, or the mask of pregnancy. I had crows feet and frown lines. I spent my days yearning for coffee and fantasizing about sleep. I was emotionally sour, angry, depressedyou name it. I wasnt myself. Pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood had aged me five years, if not ten.
So that was me, a woman barely alive, on one end of a landline. On the other end was Jeannette, the Energizer Bunny. I could tell by the sound and strength of her voice that Jeannette was the type of person who kept going and goingand loved it. In her voice I heard happiness. I heard energy. I heard fun, joy, and laughter. I heard the sound of the person I wanted to become.
As we spoke, Jeannette described the results her patients experienced. Ill admit, after spending more than twelve years in the health-writing business, I was more than a little skeptical when she told me that patients saw immediate resultsas in overnight immediate results. I also wasnt so sure of the theory. I had heard of the importance of body pH for overall health. I wasnt so sure it affected skin health.
Yet I wanted what Jeannette had. Something told me to trust her. Sign me up, I told her. We were a perfect book-writing match. Jeannette had the information I needed to turn my skin and my life around. I had the skills she needed to put her program on paper.
I soon learned that I was doing nearly everything wrong. I washed my face with a detergent-based soap, which stripped my already dry skin of moisture. I didnt use moisturizer, rarely wore sunscreen, and at times didnt bother to wash my face after exercise or before bed. All bad, but easily remedied with a trip to the store to purchase a cleanser, moisturizer, and other products designed for my specific skin type.
My lifestyle needed some changing, too. I got little sleep (a problem I couldnt easily remedy at the time) and set off my stress response about once every five minutes. Over a period of months, with Jeannettes coaxing, I began taking more time for myself. I stopped feeling guilty about napping when I was tired, cut back on my work commitments, and began shielding myself from people who generally annoyed me. I added joy and fun back into my life, making time to go to book group (something I loved but had stopped after my baby was born), to take a stress reduction class, and to run with my favorite running partner (someone whowithout failalways made me smile).
