For my mother, Olive Webber (1924 2019), and for my husband, Robert, without whom I never would have been courageous enough to embark on this journey .
WHY READ THIS BOOK
When regression hypnotherapists are asked, What problem do you struggle with the most in your practice? the answer is always the same. Results.
Even though they have all the tools and techniques of regression hypnotherapy, they still struggle with how to consistently get lasting results working with real clients who have real problems.
People dont pay for hypnosis. They pay for results. If youve ever struggled with how to facilitate a healing program... or been confused about where to begin... or what to do next in a session...or doubted your ability to deliver on your promise of results... this book is for you.
If youre not trained in Regression to Cause hypnotherapy, this isnt the book for you. This is not a how-to book on hypnosis. There are no inductions, deepeners, or scripts. Were going beyond hypnosis. This is no country for the uninitiated.
If you have trained in regression hypnotherapy, this book will change how you think about the healing process of Regression to Cause therapeutic hypnosis. It will help you to better understand the concepts and methods you already have so that you can use them more effectively in your sessions with clients.
Here, the focus is on giving you the theoretical foundation you need to confidently facilitate client-centered healing programs. To get results that last consistently, you need to understand the why of Regression to Cause hypnosis. The Devils Therapy answers the question Why we do what we do when we do it?
Do you want to feel confident guiding the healing process?
Do you want to deliver on your promise of results?
Are you ready to transform your hypnosis sessions into healing sessions?
Its much simpler than you might imagine. The answer lies in the three essential phases of therapeutic hypnosis and a seven-step protocol that can transform your regression hypnosis sessions into healing sessions.
ABOUT
I have never been interested in hypnosis. I dont come from a long line of Mesmerists. It wasnt until I completed my first training in hypnotherapy that I even saw my first stage hypnosis show. I found it pretty boring.
What drew me to hypnosis was a book.
The Healing Power of Illness is about the psychological causes of dis-ease. In it, the author states, Symptoms are bodily expressions of psychological conflicts, able through their symbolism to reveal the patients true problems.
I was hooked. I was actually on my fifth reading of the book before it dawned on me it was based on research conducted during regression sessions.
Wait a minute , I said to myself, regression??? Isnt that hypnosis? At that moment, it was as if the clouds parted, a choir of angels sang out, and I just knew.
I knew what I wanted to do.
It wasnt the hypnosis that interested me, but what you can do with it. Within a few short weeks, I was enrolled in my first hypnosis certification course.
The course promised 160 hours of classroom time and cross-training in multiple disciplines of hypnotherapy. In actuality, the curriculum focused primarily on suggestibility testing, relaxation inductions, and script-reading. There was a heavy emphasis on memorizing useless theory required to pass the written exam. And nothing on regression.
Then, I got my first client.
Sherry had survived a horrible car crash in her teens. Her car had gone off the road late at night and rolled multiple times, ending up in a crumpled mass at the bottom of a ravine. She was lucky to have made it out alive and had to spend months in a hospital recovering.
No one believed Sherry would ever walk again. When she did, she needed a leg brace and cane to support her. The thing is, the doctors said there was nothing medically wrong with her. When Sherry came to me, she was confident that she would walk again.
Sherry had been doing some reading and was convinced that the problem had to do with the trauma of the accident. She was convinced that hypnosis was the answer.
The problem is that I had no idea what to do.
I knew that to resolve traumatic memory required regression hypnosis. But I hadnt been taught that. In fact, in class, we were strongly advised to avoid doing age regression. Best not to go there! we were told, You can do a lot with a good progressive relaxation. Ugh.
My initial excitement of taking on a new client was quickly doused by the grim reality of how ill-prepared I was for the reality of helping real clients and real problems. All I had been taught was relaxation inductions, deepeners, and read them a script. That was not going to get the job done for Sherry.
It seems that my credentials werent worth the paper on which they were printed. But I knew what to do. Just before graduating from hypnosis school, a group of students had gathered together to watch a video of a professional hypnotist demonstrating an actual hypnotherapy session. This was actually the first time I had ever seen a hypnotherapy session. And I was blown away!
The hypnotist, Gerald Kein, demonstrated an instant induction, tested for somnambulism and regressed the client into a childhood event. And I knew I wanted to do that (whatever that was). I signed up for the Basic-to-Advanced Hypnotherapy distance training program to learn Regression to Cause therapeutic hypnosis.
And so began a very long journey.
I studied and practiced the Omni-Hypnosis approach to Regression to Cause hypnotherapy for the next nine months. During this time, I enrolled in additional courses, taking introductory counseling courses, an acting class, and hospice training. This gave me the foundation I needed for effective hypnotherapy. But when I found Stephen Parkhill, I knew that I had found what I had been looking for.
