Introduction What Is Hypnosis?
Many people get confused, worried or concerned about Hypnosis. Hypnosis is just a level ofrelaxation that your client will enter and the level of relaxation can vary throughout the session.Hypnosis is just like Meditation and in fact it is a slight shift of consciousness that we go intohundreds of times every day. If you have ever been engrossed in a movie, a book or driven thecar to a familiar place, but didnt remember all the indications, turns and the way there? This isthe same slight shift of consciousness that is Hypnosis. So, it is a perfectly natural thing.Using Hypnosis for therapy (Hypnotherapy) is not the same as a Stage Hypnotist. People may beconcerned about going under in Hypnosis because they have seen Stage Hypnotists on TV.When you use Hypnosis for therapy, your client is always IN CONTROL, so at any point they areable to open their eyes, move about and speak. Being out of control does not happen when youuseHypnotherapy.Thisis something you need to talkto your client about in the PreTalk/Consultation (Module 2).
The History of Hypnosis
The earliest references to hypnosis date back to ancient Egypt and Greece. Indeed, 'hypnos' isthe Greek word for sleep, though actual state of hypnosis is very different from that of sleep. Bothcultures had religious centres where people came forhelp with their problems. Hypnosiswasused to induce dreams, which were then analysed to get to the root of the trouble. The modern father of hypnosis was an Austrian physician, Franz Mesmer (1734 - 1815), fromwhose name the word 'mesmerism' is derived. Though much maligned by the medical world ofhisday,Mesmerwasneverthelessabrilliantman.Hedevelopedthetheoryof'animalmagnetism' - the idea that diseases are the result of blockages in the flow of magnetic forces inthe body. He believed he could store his animal magnetism in baths of iron filings and transfer itto patients with rods or by 'mesmeric passes'. The mesmeric pass must surely go down in historyas one of the most interesting, and undoubtedly the most long-winded, ways of putting someoneinto a trance. Mesmer would stand his subjects quite still while he swept his arms across theirbody, sometimes for hours on end. This probably had the effect of boring patients into a trance, but it was certainly quite effective!
There were also several other significant figures exploring Hypnosis in the 18th century, but oneof the most famous being Sigmund Freud (1856 1939) andMilton H Erickson, MD (1901 1980). Milton in particular was a remarkable man, and a highly effective psychotherapist. As ateenager he was stricken with polio and paralysed, but he remobilised himself. It was whileparalysed that he had an unusual opportunity to observe people, and he noticed that what peoplesaid and what they did were often very different. He became fascinated by human psychologyand devised countless innovative and creative ways to help people. He healed through metaphor, surprise, confusion and humour, as well as hypnosis. A master of 'indirect hypnosis', he was ableto put a person into a trance without even mentioning the word hypnosis.
It is becoming more and more accepted that an understanding of hypnosis is essential for theefficient practice of every type of psychotherapy. Erickson's approach and its derivatives arewithout question one of the most effective techniques. Over the years hypnosis has gainedground and respectability within the medical profession. Although hypnosis and medicine are notthe same, they are now acknowledged as being related, and it is only a matter of time beforehypnosis becomes a mainstream practice, as acceptable to the general public as a visit to thedentist.
The 7 Principals of Hypnosis
In Hypnosis, there are 7 methods commonly used. These are important aspects for you toconsider whenever you are about to start a Hypnotherapy or Regression Session.
Collaboration : You Need Their Help Too Your client needs to be at a point in their lifewhere they are ready to undertake the changes that may happen resulting from thesession you will do with them. A strong conscious mind can overrule your suggestions orthe work you are doing. For a successful session, the client must be ready and willing totake their own journey.
Forced cognition : Saying It Makes Them Think It When you use Suggestion Therapy, you will making suggestions to the subconscious mind, this then makes the client havenew thought patterns and to be able to successfully reach their goals.
Sensory thought : Thinking About Events Triggers Senses Using the Regression skillsyou will learn from this course, you will take your clients back into memories in this lifetimeand Past Lives. When these memories arise the senses become more alert and astute, making the whole experience more real.
Physical thought : Thinking Changes The Body As therapists we are all aware of theconnection between the mind and body when we connect with what is happening in ourbodies, amazing healing can happen.
Feedback : Check That It Is Working & Works Never be afraid to ask your clients in thesession and following up with them after the session, how they have responded and howthey are feeling afterwards. This work is amazing and each client that walks through yourdoor has the potential to shift issues from hundreds and thousands of years ago!
Utilization : Make Use Of What Happens. Everything Is A Resource Use your clientsterminology their words we will go into that later there is no better way of connectingand healing your client than to use the terminology that they themselves tell you.
Confidence : The Attitude Of The Therapist Is Key One of the most important aspects ofbeing a Regression Therapist. You must believe yourself that this therapy works, trust iteven if your client shows doubt and know that your client chose you on a soul level andthat you are meant to work together. Know in the work you have done, that many thingsphysically and energetically have been shifted for your client.
The Different Levels of Hypnosis
There are 4 different varying levels of Hypnosis. They are Beta, Alpha, Theta & Delta. Beta is thenormal level of a conscious mind, so this is our every day mind and the level that we are in mostof the time. Alpha is a mild daydream or light relaxation state. When you are using SuggestionTherapy with your client, they will most probably be in the Alpha state. Theta is the level wheredeep relaxation takes place, so for Age & Past Life Regression, your client will be in a Thetastate. This is where the conscious mind is mostly switched off and the subconscious is workingand releasing the memories from this lifetime or Past Lives. Delta is almost akin to being asleep,an extremely deep form ofrelaxation, where the Super Consciousnesscomes into play andSoul Memories are stored. This is deeper than Theta and used in Life Between Lives Regression.
Responses To Hypnosis
There can be various responses to Hypnosisthat your client can experience. You know yourclient is in Hypnosis when the following clues are shown: The clients voice slows down, the eyesbegin REM (Rapid Eye Movement), the face & body becomes relaxed and the eyes can start towater. These are some of the signs of Hypnosis. Some clients may feel they have been in a lightlevel or some who are more receptive feel they have been very deep. These bodily clues canconvince you that your client has gone into Hypnosis.
