In January of 2015, I moved to Paris with my daughter, Sabrina. It was a traumatic and exciting time. I had just gone through a painful divorce, and Sabrina, too, had just abruptly ended a long-term relationship. Intuitively guided to move on with our lives in this radical way, we sold our things, packed our bags, and were off to Paris just six short weeks after getting the inner guidance to go.

Needing to quickly get settled meant finding a suitable apartment for us to rent. We immediately invoked the ministry of broken hearts angels to help us with our search, and never thought for one second that they wouldnt.

And they did, more than once. The first time, the angels led us to an Airbnb in a colorful, bohemian neighborhood near Sacr-Cur that was too entertaining and unpredictable for us to be able to dwell on the past. This home helped jump-start our emotional healing. We stayed there for three months. During that time, we got a realistic sense of what it meant to live in Paris and decided that we felt ready to dive in deeper and sign a long-term apartment lease.

Calling again on the ministry of apartment-finding angels, we were serendipitously shown a gorgeous apartment in the 7th arrondissement, the quintessential Parisian neighborhood of our dreams. Complete with high ceilings, three big bedrooms, fireplaces in every room, a renovated kitchen (in and of itself a miracle in the City of Lights), two bathrooms, and floor-to-ceiling French doors, allowing light to stream in from morning until night, it was perfect.

This new apartment promised to be an oasis of beauty and calm after the cute but cramped apartment we had been living in at Sacr-Cur. But it was, unfortunately, way, way too expensive for our budget. Wondering why the ministry of angels had brought us to one so lovely yet unaffordable, I suddenly got the distinct sensation that it only appeared to be too expensive for us and felt guided to ask for a significant discount on the rent.

As I sipped a coffee at a nearby caf, the ministry of angels nudged me to offer what I could afford and see if the landlord accepted it. When I mentioned this to the agent representing the landlord, she immediately shot it down, saying that making a lower offer wasnt done in Paris. Since I had nothing to lose, I insisted she at least try, and after a lot of persuasion on my part, she reluctantly agreed.

As two insufferably long weeks went by, both Sabrina and I became more stressed by the day as our present apartment lease was quickly coming to an end and we had no other place to go. Finally, one afternoon, only four days before the end of our lease, we received word from the agent that the landlord had surprisingly agreed to our terms and was willing to rent at the price we had proposed. We were ecstatic!
