CONTENTS

Jesus death and Resurrection remind us that we must die to self so that we may rise again as a new creation in Christ

Faith is impossible without grace and the help of the Holy Spirit, but we also must use our intellects and our free will to cooperate with Gods grace.

The Holy Spirit is the Giver of Life, and we can ask for and receive His help to do what the Apostles did at Pentecost: proclaim that Jesus Christ is Lord.

Love means total self-giving.

As Christians, we are called to love our neighbor even when its hard to do so.

Evil exists in the world because of our free will, not because of God.

The Divine is good, beautiful, and true.

If you repent and ask for Gods mercy, He will always give it to you.

All people are created in the image of God with equal dignity.

God, in His divine providence, gives us chances to cooperate with His plans

The sacraments are effective signs of grace, instituted by Christ and entrusted by Him to the Church.

Scripture alone is not enough to tell us everything we need to know about salvation in Jesus Christ.

How to Use This Guide

A.D. The Bible Continues is based on the Holy Bible and strives to be true to its spirit. Certain characters and events are dramatizations.

This book contains a viewing guide for each episode of the A.D. series. We have offered a Catholic takeaway, or key Catholic principle, for each episode. Keep this principle in mind as you prepare for, watch, and discuss each one.

In addition, each episode viewing guide contains:

  • A short list of key events in the episode
  • Map and timeline
  • Important characters
  • A short background reading
  • Terms to know
  • Biblical touchstone
  • Connections to Scripture and writings of the saints
  • Focus question
  • Discussion questions
  • Suggestions for evangelization
  • Closing prayer

Important: If you dont want to know what happens, dont read ahead!

Note: A.D. The Bible Continues features a mix of historical and fictional characters. Even the words and actions of characters who have a biblical basis are often dramatizations. To learn more about the lives and sacrifices of those first Christians given the task of spreading the Gospel, read Ministers and Martyrs: The Ultimate Catholic Guide to the Apostolic Age, along with the Holy Bible and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

BACKGROUND READING

Understanding the Age

BY MIKE AQUILINA

Around 80,000 people lived in Jerusalem during the Roman occupation. Most of them were descendants of Israel. Most were Jews, and they knew that their city would be the site of the climactic scenes of the greatest drama in human history a drama not merely of local importance, but cosmic in scale.
