Michelle Van Loon writes with sensitivity, biblical insight, and touching humor about something that is painfully present in all of our lives. If Only addresses a topic that can either overwhelm us or paralyze us. She helps us understand regret, see it clearly, and deal with it appropriately. This book will be a much-needed resource, especially for women, and will help many untangle the webs of regret that have held us captive for years. I highly recommend this very special book.

In If Only, Michelle Van Loon not only acknowledges the weight of guilt most of us privately carry, but parses the difference between remorse and regret. More importantly, she invites readers to redeem our if onlys. I love the stories she tells and the wisdom she imparts in this compelling book.

The Story of the Sequel to Our If Onlys

Have you ever had a time in your life when it seemed you kept having the same conversation over and over again? It was this way for me about the topic of regret. After a while, I recognized God was at work in dozens of conversations I had with women ranging in age from early twenties through seventy-plus. My first thank you goes to each person who shared her struggle with if only with me and gave me the privilege of sharing a bit of my own in return.

A big thanks goes to the team at Beacon Hill, who believed in the message of this book. It has been a joy and an honor working with each one of you.

I am grateful to Meg Kausalik, Dr. Kathy Bogacz, and Carol Marshall, who volunteered to read much of the first draft of this manuscript. First drafts are never pretty, but they managed to hear what I was trying to say despite the messes I sent them, and their prayers, questions, and feedback helped me clarify my thoughts. If this book makes sense, it is due to their input.
