My appointment for base color and highlights was cancelled today. The Northeast got hit with a blizzard, and the stylist couldnt get in to the salon.

Normally, Im not one to care if my roots betray the illusion that Im a blonde. However, I fly out for a major television interview in twenty-four hours to promote one of my books. The show claims an audience of 24 million viewers. Can you understand why Id prefer to be completely blonde on this particular week?

Its OK. They got me rescheduled for tomorrow morning. (Thank you for breathing a sigh of relief along with me.)

It really works better for me to have this morning free. Well, its far from free. I just swapped things around. I had to get copy to my designer for the PowerPoint slides I need for this weekends speaking engagement in Atlanta. And my daughter, Lexi, seems to have racked up a triple-digit fine at the local library, so I have to make a quick stop there. Im not the slightest bit angry with her. After all, shes working on her first research paper, and shes doing great! Since Im in the middle of this big writing project, I can certainly understand what its like to lose a few books in massive piles. Which reminds me, another reason I needed the extra time this morning is to please my editor by meeting my upcoming deadline. (How could I forget since Im sitting here with my Starbucks Chai, typing away?)

And I need to buy peanut butter today. Lots of it. Peanut butter, jelly, plastic knives. In seventeen days Im leading a group of teenagers and chaperones on a mission trip to fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. Ive been there before. Theres one stretch of land between two cities where I wouldnt let my dog eat the food.

So I need to pack peanut butter.

Why on earth am I telling you all this? Well, you may be having a similar day or have had one like it recently. Chaos! I dont mind it anymore. The chaos has culminated into a wondrous adventure ever since Ive overcome my fears, enabling me to dive into the unbelievable adventure of living out the life God designed for me.

How on earth do we overcome the practical everyday limitations of budgets, responsibilities, and overwhelming fears to step into our own personal adventure of purpose?

Perhaps youve noticed that theres been a lot of talk about purpose lately. I love it. But often the books, experts, and sermons leave out one very important thing. How well my heart once knew the hopelessness of chaos without purpose. There were so many obstacles standing in the way to this adventure I now live in.
