TRUTHS TABLE
The liberating work of Truths Table creates breathing room to finally have those conversations weve been needing to have. The essays and stories are thought-provoking and will inspire both reflection and action for the spiritual journey. I closed this book feeling like I had just partaken in a multicourse mealfilled with grace and the courage to carry onand I believe youll finish this book feeling the same way, too.
Morgan Harper Nichols , artist and poet
Its time to pull up a chair and take a seat at the table! Ekemini Uwan, Christina Edmondson, and Michelle Higgins have poured their hearts into this rich and relevant anthology of theological conversations. This isnt just a Black womans book. Its a book that helps everyone, regardless of race or gender, hear the heartbeat of God.
Rev. Dr. Nicole Massie Martin , author of Made to Lead
In Truths Table, Ekemini Uwan, Christina Edmondson, Michelle Higgins shine a light on some of our most vulnerable places as Black women, leaving no stone unturned. Truths Table is a clarion call to consider our communal truths by opening ourselves up to a deeper inner truth.
Joy Harden Bradford , PhD, founder of Therapy for Black Girls
These essays will make you laugh, cry, and think critically. Truths Table is a must-read for anyone who is in a spiritual rut or demands more from the church.
Rev. Dr. Brianna K. Parker , CEO of the Black Millennial Caf
People often say, Listen to Black women. Now, with Truths Table, you have your chance. These three friends and sages share about topics as public as mass protest and as personal as singleness and divorce. They do it all from a spiritual lens that remind us of how compassionate and wise church folk are supposed to be. We do not deserve the gift of this book, but, once again, Black women have generously served us all. If we are to actually alleviate the immense burdens our sistas bear, then we must heed their words.
Dr. Jemar Tisby , New York Times bestselling author of The Color of Compromise and How to Fight Racism, and co-host of the Pass The Mic podcast
As the son of a beautiful Black woman, and the husband of the same kind, I have wanted many of my peers to know the riches that lie within the mind of Black women. Their unique struggle, indisputable triumph, and interpretation of lifes events are the manifesto of time-tested wisdom. In Truths Table: Black Womens Musings on Life, Love, and Liberation, you and I are offered a seat to eavesdrop on the resilience required to build America, the brilliance to birth families, the courage to withstand injustice, and the love that inspires devotion. Our sons and our daughters, our politicians and our preachers, need this work as a core curriculum for making our nation the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Dr. Charlie Dates , senior pastor of Progressive Baptist Church

Introduction
Hey, yall ! Welcome to Truths Table! Midwives of culture for grace and truth. We are Ekemini, Michelle, and Christina! This table is built by Black women and for Black women. So welcome to the table, sistas! How yall doin!?
For five years now, we have had the honor and pleasure of building this table. We sit with our Black sistas to discuss politics, culture, and race through the lens of our collective faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. By Gods design, the three of us had already formed a friendship that began before Truths Table podcast came to be. Between the three of us, there are two MDivs and one PhD at the table. We love Black women and theology, but above all else, we love Jesus.
When we started this podcast in March 2017, we had no idea about all the work it would entail. And we certainly didnt know about the impact and reach Truths Table would have. We are three Black women whod never listened to podcasts, and suddenly we were spotlit by The New York Times and won Black Podcasting Awards 2021 Best Black Religion and Spirituality Podcast award (slight flex).
Truths Table began as a humble and hilarious group chat. Wed talk about politics, memes, funny tweets, church people behaving poorly, etc. Whenever wed gather together to catch up at conferences and events, we knew this much: There was a void and underappreciation for Black womens voices, especially when it came to the religion and spirituality category. Podcasting became a way to get a microphone fastwithout dealing with the gatekeepers. Several trusted friends took note, too, and encouraged us to create a podcast together to amplify the faith perspective of Black women.
And so Truths Table was born.
We started with the express purpose of centering the issues, concerns, and care for Black women exclusively while glorifying God through it all. When we say, This table is built by Black women and for Black women, we mean that literally. Black women are our priority here at
