FOREWORD

Throughout the middle months of 2014 while Janet and Alan were writing this book, I was mostly on the road creating new episodes for Season 3 of H2s America Unearthed. I would check on their progress and provide limited input when I was home between shoots, but I was mostly forced to take in their creative efforts from afar. I simply couldnt fully digest the incredible discoveries that they were rapidly making. It was in June when Janet and Alan asked me to read the manuscript and see if I would write the foreword. I was thrilled to be asked and dove into the manuscript thinking I wouldnt be too surprised by its contents. This turned out not to be the case.

My best friend, Rob Wolff, first introduced me to Janet while she was working at a local restaurant where Rob was the assistant manager. I was instantly smitten, and while she was cautious at firsta trait I would come to admire and one I rarely exhibitI eventually wore her down. After twenty-six years of marriage and raising two beautiful, now adult children, Grant and Amanda, we are excited to spend our empty-nest years pursuing our passions, which largely include the Venus Families, a group you will be learning about here, and historical research. While it is my name and face that have been out there on the books Ive written and television programs Ive appeared in, Janet, for all these years, has been the guiding light that has tempered my excitement by providing the necessary skepticism and balance when evaluating a new research discovery.

One of the major early discoveries we made about the Hooked X symbol on the Kensington Rune Stone and four other medieval artifacts discovered in North America is that besides representing the a sound within the messages, it was also a symbol representing the ideology of the Venus Family members (Cistercians and Knights Templar at the time) who created the messages. The Hooked X ideology is nothing more than monotheistic dualism, which is the concept of opposites that keep things in balance such as male/female, heaven/Earth, good/bad, light/dark, and so forth. If you keep this in mind as you read this book and realize the mind-set at work by the Venus Families throughout the past two millennia, it will help you understand and enjoy this amazing book all the more. Only a decade ago did I come to fully realize and understand that for all these years Janet and I have literally been practicing dualism, and that has led to so much of the success in my writing and, indeed, my entire life. Janet, of course, knew this all along.

I first met one the most intelligent and warmest individuals Ive ever known at arguably the most beautiful Cistercian ruin, Rievaulx Abbey, in his home country of England in 2006. Shortly after realizing the authors who carved the North American rune stones with the Hooked X symbol were the Cistercians and Knights Templar, I immersed myself in books to learn as much as I could. The books that most resonated with me were written by a man named Alan Butler. I was captivated by his engaging and fluid writing style, which is as enjoyable as it is educational, and I hoped that someday I would have the opportunity to meet the man. Alan and his wife, Kate, and I hit it off that sunny day at Rievaulx, and when Janet and Alan eventually met, a new formidable research force was born.
