Born in 1564, this common man who had to teach himself to read because all others in his family were illiterate changed the world. His family was so poor that often they barely had enough food to sustain their energy for one day. After learning to read, he began to teach reading to other children of the poor in barter for food, clothing or a small amount of coin. From this process, he learned to love language.
When he married at age 18 in 1582 he quickly became the father of three and had to find a way to support his family. Moving to London in 1585, he began acting and writing. During his 52 year long life he wrote 38 plays, 154 sonnets and over 100 poems. It is also well known that during his life he took the time to teach countless children how to read.
William Shakespeare changed the world. His wife, Anne Hathaway, once wrote of Shakespeare that he said one of his greatest achievements was overcoming the belief that because he was poor and uneducated he believed he had no value. She said that until he overcame this self doubt belief he couldnt write or compose.
Once that limiting belief was removed from his life their family moved to London and all forms of expression blossomed forth for him because he came to believe he could communicate in all forms acting, dance, music, poetry and plays and he did, right up to when William Shakespeare died in 1616.

Self Esteem and Limiting Beliefs
A crucial concept is that all beliefs are a choice. According to Websters dictionary, a belief is something that a person can hold or think is true, without necessarily being able to adequately prove its main contention. Its trusting that something is real, that makes it real for you. Its your beliefs that support that trust.
I love the saying, Truth is fact but perception is reality. Truth with a capital T is fact. Its substantial. Its concrete and measurable. Its solid and documentable. But, what you perceive as real is real for you whether its true or not. Your reality is whatever you think to be true even if there is no basis in reality for that presupposition.
Many years ago I worked with a man who was schizophrenic to help him learn to relax. On top of his schizophrenia he had many tensions and stressors that had compounded his illness. His doctor recommended he see me so that I could help him move through some of these stressors and teach him a few simple techniques that he could use to help himself.
One of the interesting things that I found with this gentleman as we worked together was that the voices that talked to him always came from the north wall of a building, or from the northern direction.
If he was walking down a street the external voices he hallucinated, always came to him from objects from the north. Trees, buildings, cars, whatever happened to be to the north.
If he was camping it would be the north wall of the tent. There were always three men and two women and they talked to him just as clearly as Im talking to you now. The perception of these voices was so real, that for him, they were real.
We discussed this more than once and he said, Well, I know theyre probably not real. But they sound so clear, so sharp, and so distinct to me, that to me they are real. That perception of reality, of hearing those voices, made them come alive for him inside his mind and in his life.
Beliefs Make Your Reality
Your beliefs are what make your perceptions real to you. If you believe like Shakespeare did that you are worthless because you grew up without a great education and were poor, until you release that belief your life will be really hard.
Today, you will learn proven methods and thinking patterns to overcoming limiting beliefs that could get in your way.
In 1939, an article written in the New York Times about Napoleon Hill, the author of Think and Grow Rich quoted him as saying, Anything the mind of man can conceive and believe it can achieve.
Mr. Hill in effect was saying that your beliefs make your reality. If you can think it and believe it you can have it or you can do it. Your thoughts make your beliefs, and your reality stems from what you believe is true for you.
Limiting Beliefs & Stress
The Mayo Clinic research staff in 2008 reported on a study they had conducted on how self limiting beliefs, low self esteem and negative thoughts all combine to cause an increase in stress, low achievement and emotional stress. Beliefs in your limitations, your lack of skill, low self esteem or negative thinking impact all parts of your life.
They impact your relationships, your job, your health, your money, your happiness and much more. Researchers at Mayo said that when you raise your self esteem and improve your belief system, even if youre an adult who has had negative patterns since childhood, you can change these and have a better life.
Changing the way you think about yourself and your life situation is crucial. For the most part, your feelings and behavior results from your self talk about you. About 65%-75% of all emotions are the result of your thinking patterns and the pictures in your mind. You need to begin catching your negative self talk, recognize what youre telling yourself that is upsetting and challenge it.
Ultimately, you need to replace that negative thinking and those negative or inaccurate limiting beliefs with more positive, can do, goal focused, realistic thought patterns.
