Immense thanks to Carolyn Ward for a lifetime of friendship, encouragement, and indispensable editing advice.
I am so grateful to my esteemed colleagues for all their valuable input. An extra loud shout-out to Jef Saunders, whose guidance and contributions were instrumental to this revised edition. You rock! Im profoundly thankful for my cherished piercer and sweetheart, Rich Hartwick (the best boyfriend ever), for all the support and unconditional love.
Much obliged to the cadre of talented and dedicated piercers who answered my many questions: Cale DiFrancesco, Bridgett Celeste Dearing, Becky Dill, Luis Garcia, Miro Hernandez, John Johnson, Paul King, Jane-Marie Martinez, Ryan Ouellette, Pablo Perelmuter, Bethrah Szumski, James Weber, and David Vidra. Much appreciation to Erica Skadsen for information on natural jewelry, and Jason Pfohl for facts about glass. Kudos to the many piercers who contributed to this project but are not mentioned by name, including everyone who shared in the Piercing Bible Updates Group.
Cheers, applause, and high praise to Dr. Stephanie Hutter Thomas, Becky Dill, and the Board of the Association of Professional Piercers for their collaboration on the groundbreaking Piercer Survey. We did it!
Hats off to my respected supporters from the health care professions: Dr. Stanley Steinberg (my dad), Dr. Robert Winn; Betsy Reynolds, RDH; Scott DeBoer, RN; and Dr. Myrna Armstrong.
