In the above diagrams, shows the leading constructive lines when the figure is standing upright and resting on both legs. In the weight of the body is carried mainly on one leg, and in this position the axial line of the body becomes a curve, but still the line drawn through the shoulders and that through the Pelvis may be regarded as at right angles to this imaginary curve. Observe that the Pelvis is higher on the side which supports the figure, and also that the hip makes a sharper angle on that side, and further, note the slope of the standing leg with the ground, necessary for the balance of the figure.
The axial line of the body carried down through the standing leg gives here a line of double curvature, which is the first line to be drawn in suggesting the pose.
