Introduction:
THE PERFECT KISS
A great kiss is like watching the ball drop in Times Square on New Years Eve - photo 3
A great kiss is like watching the ball drop in Times Square on New Years Eve. Theres the countdown to contact, the moment when your heart flutters from your stomach to your chest, and thenthe kiss. You hear the noisemakers, people cheering, horns honking, confetti flies through the air, and youre caught in a vivid moment in time. Your heart warms (or ignites like a fuse). Your perspective changes, your senses sharpen, colors become more vivid, and you just know your brights will come out brighter than ever before. At least, thats what it feels like when the right pairs of lips come together in all the right ways.
Kisses like this are rarebut they dont have to be. Unfortunately, our lips didnt come with an owners manual to tell us how to deliver smooches that stop traffic, start five-alarm fires, and warp the time-space continuum. Most of us have to figure that out by trial and error, and believe me, it isnt pretty. It messes up your lipstick, screws with your confidence, and you wind up pecking a lot of awful kissers. If only we could spot the lousy kissers, fix the ones we like, and if we just had ninjalike kissing skills, wed be the baddest girls on the block with puckers that make urban legends seem tame.
Thats what this book is for. This is where you learn to kiss like a movie star and make the one youre kissing feel as if his favorite song just came on the radio every time your lips come together. Find out how to time a kiss perfectly, how to deliver and get a first kiss, and how to ask for kisses with and without words. Learn how to know when someone wants to kiss you and what to do if the person you like turns out to be a bad kisser. Solve problems like stubble rash, and what happens when your kiss doesnt turn out the way youd planned. Discover all the kissing dos and donts, and find out all the things you should never do when you kiss someone.
There are oodles of techniques in these pages to help you come up withand perfectyour very own style for each lucky someone you kiss, no matter if youre a novice kisser or a make-out queen. Sex up your mouth and make it irresistibly kissable, then supercharge your kisses with advanced tricks, fun games, and tasty treats. Oh, and if you color your pucker, find out how to keep your lipstick perfect, no matter how hot and heavy (or wet and messy) your kissing session gets.
Dont stop with the lipsknow your kissees hot spots and get the skinny on how and where to kiss parts of the body thatll make them melt. Learn how to French-kiss like an angel (or a naughty devil) and all the different types of kisses and when to use them. Best of all, learn everything you need to make your first kiss with that special someone absolutely perfect and unforgettable.
Kissing is about chemistrysometimes a kiss can be the moment we realize were falling in love. The kind of connection experienced with a kiss can rock you to the core. But it doesnt have to be with someone you lovea kiss can be one of the most lighthearted ways of sharing intimacy with another person.
You can kiss as a sport, in a kissing booth for charity, or you can kiss someone just to find out if they are more interesting than you thoughtall without commitment to either pair of lips involved. Or, if you choose, kissing can be the most intimate thing you share only with someone you love. But no matter how you kiss, or whom you kiss, you should always make it a doozy.
I hope you have as much fun putting this book into practice as I did doing the research for it.

Smooches,

Im not a rude person as a general matter of form, but if I dont say it chances are that no one else will. The fact is that most books on the subject of kissing have been wishywashy and dull to the point of putting the reader to sleep. They pontificate, they introduce footnotes into the discussion, or they adduce so many irrelevant digressions that youre ready to tear your hair out waiting for something of substance, something that you can actually sink your teeth into when you sit down with the one you dote on, or when you get close enough to feel the heat from the face of that angel who makes your heart throb like a thundering Arabian charger.
Which is why its a distinct pleasure for me to compose a foreword to this comprehensive how-to guide by Violet Blue and to introduce you to her delectable take on the romance and delights of modern kissing.
Just because I wrote a book called The Art of Kissing doesnt mean I refrain from reading other authors on the subject. Nay, nay! On the contrary, Im always studying them for pointers that I can use in my own life, andlike I saidusually being disappointed at the shortage of hands-on information they present. Not so in the present case! Im happy to report that this compendium of tips and tricks is without a doubt the best Ive opened in the past many years. Violet Blue is a person well known to me as a leader in the war against that unfortunate puritanical streak that makes America the laughingstock of enlightened and freethinking Western Europeans. We really need to relax when it comes to topics like intimacy, cuddling, and nibbling on your inamoratas earlobe. In some rather remarkable ways, Violet Blue reminds me of that iconoclastic Welsh politician and literary analyst Leo Abse, whose book on Daniel Defoe is enough to make a high school English teacher blush. In like manner, Violet Blue delves deep into the hidden meanings of kissing, she explores the mind of the kisser like its never been revealed since D. H. Lawrences Mr. Noon, and she uncorks a vast compendium of exotic and erotic lore calculated to tantalize as well as instruct the neophyte and the Don Juan in all of us.
If I can get personal for a moment, the reason I like reading books on kissing is simple. They potentially contain new ideas that even I, who have directed kissing demonstrations at literally hundreds of colleges and universities across North America, can learn from. And I can say with confidence that the most experienced kisser will discover valuable ideas from Violet Blues latest foray into the world of romance. The pages that follow will open your eyes and mind to important new methods of approaching a first kiss, to fresh techniques for the French kiss, and to kissing games you may never have tried. In my opinion, her suggestions for a first kiss (and remember, even if youre in a relationshiptheres always at least the possibility of a first romantic kiss with someone new) are perfectly crafted to guide you through all the psychological and physical joysand pitfallsof the process.
Youre on solid ground when you study this book since all the advice is geared to show you how to get the most from your romantic encounters. The chapters that follow are in the grand tradition of all Romantic literature, harking back to the works of Ovid, right on down through the Middle Ages with manuals on courtly love, and up to the present with how-to guides for the rest of us. Whether youre young or old, youre sure to find plenty of good advice in these pages. But read them
