    A Winners Creed

If you think you are beaten, you are,

If you think you dare not, then you wont.

If you like to win, but you think you cant,

It is almost certain you wont.

If you think youll lose, youre lost.

For out of the world we find,

Success begins with a fellows will.

Its all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are.

Youve got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win a prize.

Lifes battles dont always go to the stronger or faster man,

But sooner or later the man who wins

Is the man who thinks he can.

The first edition of this book came about by questioning, Why cant we write a guide to assist athletic training students in preparing for the BOC examination? After all of the times that we had informally guided former students to prepare for this examination, we felt that we could put together such a study guide. Thus began an amazing journey.

My mentors and colleagues throughout my career (38 years) were the type of individuals who would always challenge me, but make themselves available for my questions. They pushed me to my maximum, but did so knowing it would only make me a better athletic trainer. To each of them, I am grateful for their unwavering guidance and support. I wanted to pay that forward. The evolution of this study guide is a result of that desire.

Preparation is one of the keys to success. We as authors have put together a great number of questions and answers in multiple formats to help you challenge yourself and be successful in passing the BOC examination. The intention was not to spoon-feed you, but to make you think and problem solve. My favorite story is of Rikki Tikki Tavi. It is a story of a mongoose who is curious and always searching for answers. I relate to this story because I have such a passion for this great profession and the only way I could become better at my craft was to run and find out like the mongoose in this story. It has to come from within. No professor can teach that.

We have spent countless hours reviewing material and keeping abreast of new topics relevant to the profession to assure the book is as up-to-date as possible. Of course, at the time of printing, other topics may evolve that we can only address in future editions. Believe me, it is a formidable task to keep up with all of the changes in this profession; but that means growth and that is a good thing.

For over 15 years, Athletic Training Exam Review: A Student Guide to Success has provided students with a comprehensive manuscript in preparing for the BOC examination. This latest edition provides over 1350 questions with a new section on Evidence-Based Practice.

As authors, we hope to provide a study guide that will help alleviate most of the trepidations of this examination. We tried to provide a roadmap for you to follow that would make this entire experience easier to swallow. are specifically dedicated to providing you with that pathway. Those chapters are dedicated to giving you a feel of the format of the examination and how to approach studying for it.
