Have you ever experienced an abundance of natural energy running through your body and mind? If you did, how did the world look to you? Was everything brighter? Did the challenges of your life seem less significant? How did you relate to the people around you? How did you feel about yourself and the people you love?

Vibrant natural energy is truly a wonderful feeling that too few people experience on a consistent basis. The number of Americans suffering from fatigue is staggering. Fatigue is the most common medical complaint in medical practice. It is also a complaint that the current medical system has very little answers for. Fortunately, a new medical model is emerging that focuses on health rather than disease.

It is my hope in writing this book that the reader will follow the guidelines and recommendations presented to live a more energetic and passionate life. I know the recommendations workI have seen them work in my own life, the lives of my patients, and the lives of my friends and family members.

Although the book focuses on the chronic fatigue syndrome, a newly defined syndrome linked to low immune function and chronic viral illness, the answers provided are appropriate for anyone seeking higher energy levels. Practical information is provided so that the recommendations given can easily be utilized.

This book is not based on theory, it is based on firm rational scientific and medical ground. The recommendations given throughout the book are designed to improve your whole beingyour mind, body, emotional state, physiology, and, of course, your energy level. More and more, there is a greater appreciation for the interconnectedness of the mind and body as well as the individual body systems.

Chronic fatigue syndrome may be the prime example of a general system failure. It seems to affect every body function, especially the immune system and the mind. In turn, these two body systems are influenced tremendously by the environment, internal physiology, nutritional status, and other factors.

The approach presented in this book may be the most comprehensive approach for chronic fatigue syndrome and chronic fatigue ever written. I have read many books on these subjects, including many medical textbooks, but they always seemed to be missing something. In the case of chronic fatigue, nothing can be overlooked.

By reading this book, I feel extremely confident that my hope will be realizedthat you, the reader, will experience greater vitality and passion in your life.

Acknowledgments

The major blessings in my life are my family and friends. My love for them truly makes life worth living.

Special appreciations to my wife, Gina, for being the answer to so many of my dreams; to my parents, Cliff and Patty Murray, and my grandmother, Pauline Shier, for a strong foundation and a lifetime of good memories; to Bob and Kathy Bunton for their love and acceptance; to Ben Dominitz and everyone at Prima for their commitment and support of my work; to Terry Lemerond and everyone at Enzymatic Therapy for all of their friendship and support over the years; to Joseph Pizzorno and the students and faculty at Bastyr College who have given me encouragement and support; and finally, I am eternally grateful to all the researchers, physicians, and scientists who over the years have strived to better understand the use of natural medicines. Without their work, this series would not exist, and medical progress would halt.
