Nothing: summary, description and annotation

We offer to read an annotation, description, summary or preface (depends on what the author of the book "Nothing" wrote himself). If you haven't found the necessary information about the book — write in the comments, we will try to find it.

In Nothing eight young people - including a Vandal, a Stalker and a Porn Girl - recount their experiences, capturing the apathy rampant in todays youth.
Yet Nothing is much more than a series of monologues. It is about - among other things - cupcakes, action films, crap television, shitting, sex, buses and stalking. It is about alienation and being young.
Initially written as eight monologues by Lulu Raczka (winner of the Sunday Times Young Playwriting Award), Nothing asks questions about the nature of theatre itself. In its original production by Barrel Organ Theatre the performers improvised a new cut with every performance, each starting the show without knowing which particular monologue they would be performing on that occasion. Nothing is thus a game for both performer and audience, but it is also a serious interrogation of the structures within which we live.

Performance Notes:
These pieces are not set. The words should not change but the pieces can be performed in any order, by any number of people, in any space, at any time. They can be cut and pasted in any way you would like.
Have fun.
These are the Rules used in the original production by Barrel Organ Theatre.
In this production the actors performed the monologues in an improvised order and cut for each performance. It happened in a variety of locations, from theatrical spaces to deserted car parks. It was completely different for every performance.
The Rules
Start when you want.
Speak when you want.
Stand where you want.
Move where you want.
You are an audience member until you start speaking.
Tell your story it is your duty to make sure it is heard.
No more than 4 stories happening at once.
Dont plan just do.
If there is a tone developing, play against it.
The arc of the show is more important than any individual performance.
Respond to peoples actions not to anyones story.
Dont look at the person who interrupts you.
Be a team if someone is struggling, help them out and interrupt.
Hit your marks and get out the crucial aspects of your story let others hit theirs.
Take risks.
Interact with the space around you.
The show does not exist in an imaginary world it exists in the room, in the moment.
Only 1 performer can leave during the performance.
They can re-enter if they wish.
The audience ears are fresh, dont be afraid to recap + repeat.
The audience should be able to talk not share.
The audience can influence, but cannot break this show, let them know this if necessary.
The audience are necessary. Dont alienate them.
It is not a safe space.
The show is not finished.
BFF: You know Berlin doesnt have any CCTV?
I just heard that
I dont even know if its true
Some guy told me.
Hes probably talking shit.
But
I mean
If its true
I just dont get why?
I mean
CCTV is there to protect people
Its there
You know
So that people know theyre being watched
That they cant just do what they want
Its important.
I get that it doesnt always work.
I mean
Look at what happ
But still
Its
I told her to text me when she got home.
I mean
We always do that
You know
Its what they tell you to do at school
And on TV and whatever
I just went to sleep
She never text me
But I was asleep anyway
So I guess
She doesnt really talk about it
Well
Sometimes
I dunno
Once in a while I get a phone call and shes on the other end in tears and I just
I dunno
Freeze up
Cause what can I actually say to her?
I dont understand what shes going through
How can I?
I can give her fuck all
I
She used to be so fun
I know I would say that
Cause
Obviously
Shes my friend
Why would I be friends with her if she wasnt fun?
But actually
To be honest
I have loads of fucking boring friends
She was so funny too
But also
She was really hot
Cause usually girls
Theyre either hot or theyre funny
Like
You know
Theyre not both
Cause if youre always hot
Why do you need to be funny?
Everyone is always gonna like you
I tried to call her in the morning
But there was no answer
I didnt even think anything of it
I just waited for her to call me back
We decided that she was the only one of our friends who could pull off a click
You know what I mean?
Like a sassy girl click?
Obviously she wouldnt
But if she did it wouldnt be lame
OK
Well
It would still be lame
But she could have done it way better than any of us
Not that I would
You know
This guy dumped her really harshly
And seriously
I dont know why cause he was fucking hideous
A week later he turned up to a party with some other girl
And I mean
She wasnt even hot
Like not at all
And we were all like
Do a sassy girl click!
Do a sassy girl click!
Do a sassy girl click in her face!
And she wouldnt
Cause
