10 Tips for Successful Weight Loss
There are literally thousands of diets and weight loss products available today. Each promises success in helping you lose weight. Two things seem to be true, we all want a quick fix and we want it now!
The result is an overwhelming abundance of information on diet and health. Does anyone go beyond the 2 major diet trends? From the grapefruit diet to the latest ' Returning from holiday' fad..
The problem is not the availability of the information, it is the uptake and the effect on our actions of the information that we choose to follow. We each have a choice; whether to pay attention to the latest science or remember those diet myths...
Dieting has become so generic that we now all 'oa-pass' the diet on to our loved ones. Is that the effect of information or the quality of the weight-loss program?
If you own an exercise bike, how do you make the most of the time you spend? By riding in your gym or riding up hills?
The best solution is to exercise that you like. Maybe you like to run? Then run. Do you go for a hike on a beautiful summer day? Then enjoy the company of the campfire?
It does not matter if you never put another hound on your back or if you hurt yourself doing those exercises you love, as long as you are walking the path of your choice, your behavior will change.
The same is true for diets. The solution is to choose what has worked for you in the past, and build on that. If you succeed at this, you will not only help your body, you will also help your self-esteem and enjoy the process of losing weight.
Here are the top 10 tips for successful weight loss:
Your diet should be 80% of the program, 20% exercise and the other 20% nutrition (i.e. what and how much you eat). You must allow your body at least one treat a day, you do not want to completely deprive yourself. If you have no control over what you eat, you can snack on carrot sticks and celery.
Be dismayed by diets that make you skip meals or restrict your daily calorie intake; they are set up to fail!
The worst thing you can do is crash diet by eating a minimum of calories a day. This will throw your body into starvation mode and cause you to store more fat. Other than being very dangerous, it will also be very ineffective.
You must understand the difference between body fat and body muscle. Muscle is efficient at burning calories, body fat is not. Body fat comes from eating fatty foods, while muscle needs calories and protein to function.
Clean out your kitchen! If you have junk food in the house you will be tempted to indulge in your cravings. This will cost you in the long run and you will feel like a failure.
Drink water, lots of it. Dehydration damaging your body in several ways, and you will actually find yourself gaining weight.
Eat your meals at the table, and do not eat in front of the TV. Studies have shown that we naturally eat less when we eat in front of the TV, probably because your brain is consuming more time during the show.
An easy principle to keep to - it is 2 servings of protein per day, 5 servings of fresh vegetables, 2 servings of whole grain and 2 servings of fruit.
You must make 10 changes to your daily behavior. If you do not have time to visit the gym, you can get exercise by carrying your groceries? The key is to make simple changes, get into action and keep to your program.
Finally, get some self-honesty and accountability. Use a daily or weekly checklist to help you achieve your goals and do what you have to do.
This is the start to losing weight, and improving your life. Do not fall back into the old eating habits. Your mind and body must be re-ready to make life changes. Start now, keep it simple and enjoy your new lifestyle.
10 Tips To Increase Your Metabolism
There are a few major factors that play a role in an individual's metabolism. These factors include the amount of muscle in the body, fitness levels, and cancer.
For many of us, we would love to increase our metabolism. In fact, it seems like our metabolism does a good job when we aren't even too active. But, how can you speed up your fat burning potential? These 10 tips may help jump start your metabolism:
1. Build more muscle. You do not have to be a bodybuilder, but adding strength training to your workout three times a week does a lot for your metabolism. In fact, the amount of muscle you have directly effects your metabolic rate. For every pound of muscle you have on your body, there is a 35-50 calorie per day burn that is burning. It's easy to build up muscle; all you have to do is develop a routine.
2. Coffee. The caffeine in coffee has been known to increase metabolic rate for some time. It has also been shown in studies that the caffeine in coffee causes an increase in fat oxidation. However, instead of going all out yourself, you can swap coffee for a sugar loaded soda. As far as the soda, try to find ones with high sugar content that wouldn't have as much sugar after the drink is consumed, making them even better for burning calories.
3. Less starch.Less sugar will allow your body to utilize your fatty stores more efficiently.
4. Breakfast.Don't skip a meal. Instead, eat four to five small meals a day. Eating frequently keeps your metabolism revved up and will allow you to burn more calories through digestion.
5. More muscle.Another thing to do is to build up your muscle mass; even a small increase in muscle will make a big difference. On top of this, your muscles will burn more calories, even when you're not doing anything.
