THE EARLY SESSIONS

The Early Sessions consist of the first 510 sessions dictated by Seth through Jane Roberts. There are 9 books in The Early Sessions series.

THE PERSONAL SESSIONS

The Personal Sessions , often referred to as the deleted sessions, are Seth sessions that Jane Roberts and Rob Butts considered to be of a highly personal nature and were therefore kept in separate notebooks from the main body of the Seth material. There are 7 books in The Personal Sessions series.

The great value I see now in the many deleted or private sessions is that they have the potential to help others, just as they helped Jane and me over the years. I feel that its very important to have these sessions added to Janes fine creative body of work for all to see. Rob Butts

A NOTE ON THE COVER DESIGN PHOTOGRAPHS

June 2003. A note about the photographs Michael Goode used in his striking cover design for The Personal Sessions series.

The central colored photograph of Jane and the lower right and left-hand shots of her and myself were taken by my father, Robert F. Butts, Sr., in Sayre, PA a year or so after our marriage in December 1954. The upper right one of Jane in trance for Seth was taken (among many others) by Rich Conz, a photographer for the Emira, NY Star-Gazette , while he witnessed Session 508 on Nvember 20, 1969. (See Volume 9 of The Early Sessions .)

I dont know who photographed the young Jane shown on the upper left, but she saved that picture all of those years for me to inherit upon her death in September 1984, when she was 55.

My inventive and versatile father had always taken photographs, and in his later years turned professional, photographing many weddings and other events in the Sayre area (and also Janes and my wedding at the home of my younger brother Loren and his wife Betts in Tunkhannock, PA). To help my father, my mother Estelle trained herself to hand-color his black and white photographs, for color film was not available thenand so she colored Janes portrait. Now I wonder: do my long-deceased parents, and Rich and the unknown photographer of the young Jane, all know that their creativity will grace the covers of a series of books that I so lovingly dedicate to them, as well as to Jane and each reader? I believe that they do, each in his or her own way.

INTRODUCTION

BY ROB BUTTS

September 20, 2002. How strange, I found myself thinking as I prepared to write this introduction, that 37 years would pass before Id start publishing this series of personal sessions and excerpts that had been dictated by my wife, Jane Roberts, for Seth, the energy personality essence she spoke for while in a trance state.

In reviewing them, Im very pleased to discover that these sessions are as fresh, as creative and perceptive, as they ever were. Talk about the elasticity of time, as Seth often did! How much do we consciously know, or think we know, about that ultimately mysterious quality within which we construct our universe, our planet, the most minute portion of each one of us, mental or physical, during each moment of our lives? That ineluctable universe within which we swim so beautifully day and night, one that, according to Seth, we also createand all at once, no less! As Seth told us in Session 20, on January 23, 1964: Time and space, dear friends, are both camouflage patterns, therefore the fact that the inner senses can conquer time and space is not, after all, so surprising. To the mind with its subconscious, and to the inner senses, there is no time or space.... If only we could really grasp consciously those innate qualities that we value so highly, yet take for granted! I think that my writing this introduction, then, is basically timeless behavior.

I also think that in her unique private and public ways Jane explored time as well, as evocatively, as anyone ever has. An immodest statement, I submit, but Im proud to have shared in her creativity, and I offer The Personal Sessions series as a testament to what she sought to accomplish in all of her writingsand did indeed accomplish, in my opinion.

Obviously, this introduction will be incomplete. It will also be rather unorthodoxmore like a series of conscious and unconscious reminiscences and free associations, moving back and forth in time as I approach sets of ideas from various angles while seeking to learn more about my wife even now, 18 years after her death. Janes death may have been physical, yet she still lives, still offers insights, still makes me reach to understand and grow as I mourn her passing. She died at the age of 55. What more could she have accomplished in our camouflage reality had she chosen to live physically for, say, even another decade? Wonderfully penetrating things, Im sureand I believe that she is indeed doing so, where she is now.

Do I think it a coincidence, then, that I received the page proofs, or galleys, to check for Volume 1 of The Personal Sessions from publisher Rick Stack on September 5, 2002, when Jane died on the same day 18 years ago?

No, I think that seemingly innocuous little happening is one more sign of how this reality were all creating together works in its often mysterious, and often ignored, fashion.

Some will disagree with my felt premise and this is their right, of course. But after working with Jane and the many complicated and interwoven facets of the Seth material that she produced for more than 20 years, I no longer believe in chance or coincidence. I humbly submit that somehow, somewhere, there are connections, intuitions, whispers and shouts and facts that proclaim our greater realitys depth and being, its independence of our ordinary conscious ideas of space and time. More and more, but especially since Janes death on September 5, 1984, I have tried to be open to those fascinating and unending interrelationships we create individually and en masse and so live with.
