About the editors
Benoy Mathew PT, MSc, MCSP, PG Cert (MSK US) is a specialist lower limb physiotherapist, an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist, an MSK Sonographer and Shockwave UK Education Lead. He works for the UK National Health Service in London, UK, as well as in private practice.
Benoy has a special interest in chronic hip and groin pathologies and the management of running injuries. He is the clinical lead for shockwave education in the UK. As a trained musculoskeletal sonographer he employs diagnostic ultrasound in his clinical practice. He is passionate about the application of research in clinical practice and has had a number of his own research papers published in internationally peer-reviewed journals.
Benoy teaches regularly on numerous courses, both in the UK and overseas. More than 2500 participants have attended his courses in the last 8 years.
Carol A. Courtney PT, MApplSc, PhD, ATC is Professor of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences at Northwestern University, Chicago, USA. She is a licensed physical therapist and athletic trainer and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. In 1991 and 1992, she was chosen to serve on the US medical staffs for the Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba, and the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain. Dr Courtney has clinical expertise in the management of chronic musculoskeletal pain and sports injury. Her academic focus is on advanced clinical reasoning in orthopedic physical therapy and her research investigates the effects of knee joint injury and osteoarthritis on pain processing and joint function; her work also focuses on the modulation of pain mechanisms through non-pharmacologic interventions, including manual therapy and exercise. She has over 100 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and conference presentations and has lectured both nationally and internationally on this research.
Csar Fernndez-de-las-Peas PT, PhD, Dr MedSci is full professor at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (URJC), Madrid, Spain, where he is also leader of the Clinical Pain Research Group on Manual Therapy and Exercise. He combines his research activity with clinical practice as Head, Division of Physical Therapy Department, at the University Physical Therapy Clinic. He has received several awards for his research and clinical practice.
Csar has published around 550 peer-reviewed publications and is the first-named author of approximately 250. His research activities are concentrated on the neuroscience of pain. In his clinical practice Csar treats patients with chronic pain disorders. His premise is: integrating clinical practice with research is the key for our patients.
Csar is often invited to present keynote lectures at international conferences and he has taught workshops in over 20 countries. He is the main editor of 10 textbooks on manual therapy for chronic musculoskeletal pain including Temporomandibular Disorders , also published by Handspring Publishing.
