Title: Atlas of dermatopathology : synopsis and atlas of Levers histopathology of the skin / David E. Elder, Rosalie Elenitsas, Adam I. Rubin, Michael Ioffreda, Jeffrey Miller, O. Fred Miller III, Sook Jung Yun.

Description: Fourth edition. | Philadelphia : Wolters Kluwer, 2021. | Preceded by Atlas and synopsis of Levers histopathology of the skin / David E. Elder [et al.]. 3rd ed. c2013. | Includes bibliographical references and index. | Summary: In this new edition, as in its predecessors, we have extensively updated the text, based on review of the recent literature, and also on material from the latest (11th) edition of Levers Histopathology of the Skin. We have added more extensive discussion of several diseases that were either not covered or only briefly mentioned with little or no elaboration in the earlier editions, and have added current references to the literature. We have added multiple new images including clinical images of conditions that were not formerly illustrated. These are original digital images of high quality. As in the last edition, the histopathologic images have been prepared from digital slides and the quality is state of the art, especially noticeable in the low-power images. These images are to be provided online for the readers convenience. We have continued the use of arrows and labels on the photomicrographs, adapted from the style used in Sara Edwards excellent book Essential Dermatopathology. In addition, we have continued the practice of using tables to summarize the most salient diagnostic features of potential look-alike diseases Provided by publisher.

BRIEF CONTENTS
HOW TO USE THIS BOOK

In this book, diseases are classified not by the usual pathophysiologic classification but according to a pattern classification, more fully discussed in the Introduction on page xxiii.

In this pattern classification, the diseases are classified first as to their location in the skin, then according to morphologic patterns that may present in those particular locations, and then according to the cell types involved. Generally speaking, these classifiers can be thought of as low-power, medium-power, and high-power microscopic features.

There are eight specified locations, which are assigned Roman numerals I through VIII, as follows below.

  1. Disorders Mostly Limited to the Epidermis and Stratum Corneum
  2. Localized Superficial Epidermal or Melanocytic Proliferations
  3. Disorders of the Superficial Cutaneous Reactive Unit
  4. Acantholytic, Vesicular, and Pustular Disorders
  5. Perivascular, Diffuse, and Granulomatous Infiltrates of the Reticular Dermis
