This is my third book with finance guru Stoil Jotev, and I dearly hope for more in the future. His work continues to be a delight to read and editI always walk away with the impression that I, too, could configure an SAP S/4HANA Finance system. After all, its all laid out so clearly between these pages! Whether you need me to set up a business partner record or run reports in SAP Fiori apps, Im sure Im up to the task!
Weve made some improvements to this second edition, starting with an all-new chapter on predictive accounting and another chapter on the newly redesigned margin analysis. Stoil has also carefully recreated each screenshot in the book in the latest UI; we wanted to make sure that the images in the book match the system youre working in.
As we maintain this key finance resource, its important that we hear from you, the reader. What did you think about the second edition of Configuring SAP S/4HANA Finance ? Preface
SAP S/4HANA is the biggest innovation in the world of business software applications in more than a quarter of a century. With SAP S/4HANA, SAP introduced a fundamentally improved cloud-based solution that takes full advantage of the revolutionary in-memory database SAP HANA. SAP S/4HANA is a game changer and will set trends in business software computing for many years to come.
The number of companies using SAP S/4HANA has grown quickly, and many SAP customers are still planning to move to SAP S/4HANA. In addition, many companies that currently do not run SAP are planning SAP implementations to take advantage of the new in-memory cloud solution. The interest in SAP S/4HANA is enormous and dwarfs all previous major release upgrade plans. The projection for the next few years is that so many companies will start or continue major SAP S/4HANA projects that the shortage of SAP consultants with experience in SAP S/4HANA will be enormous. A real fight for talent will be waged among companies because an experienced consulting team is the number one factor for the success of an SAP implementation.
Objective of This Book
The objective of this book is to provide a comprehensive guide to customizing SAP S/4HANA Finance. The goal is to cover all main financial and controlling functionalities so that this book can serve as a single source of truth for anyone who is looking to configure SAP S/4HANA Financemuch like the new Universal Journal, which will be discussed in detail later and which is referred to as the single source of truth for financial accounting in SAP S/4HANA. Well cover both the financial accounting and controlling areas of the system. The motivation for this book is to be equally helpful for new greenfield implementations and for system conversions from older SAP systems.
This book aims not only to cover all main system functionalities from a finance point of view, but also to provide deep insight into the whole implementation process, drawing on the authors 20 years of practical experience overcoming numerous challenging SAP projects. This book will discuss in detail not only the technicalities and the configuration options available, but also methods to gather business requirements and to create system solutions that can fully meet those requirements. The objective of this book will be fulfilled if after reading it youve been transformed into a real SAP S/4HANA financial solution architect, capable of creating real state-of-the-art system solutions.
Target Audience
The target audience of this book includes FI/CO consultants, SAP S/4HANA project managers, finance managers, and business process owners. This book is not for beginners. We wont cover SAP basics such as how to log on or post a financial document. Some SAP experience is required, but this book should be useful not only for senior consultants, but also for junior consultants and financial users alike who want to gain more technical experience under the hood of SAP S/4HANA Finance.
This book will cover the whole configuration process in SAP S/4HANA Finance, so some information will not be new for experienced FI/CO consultants coming from an SAP ERP background. However, well emphasize the changes between SAP ERP and SAP S/4HANA and explain the fundamental improvements of SAP S/4HANA.
This book is not only technical. Youll learn the methods to delivering successful projects and solutions using the latest techniques from SAP, so this book should be also quite beneficial for project managers and team leads who need to learn best practices for leading their projects and at the same time to become more familiar with the underlying technical architecture.
