Dear Reader,

The cover of this book reminds me of something Id long forgotten: the knitting needles in my desk drawer.

A few years ago, a friend gifted me a handknit scarf. The woolen thread was an interwoven pattern of greens, blues, and purples, and, most important for Bostons winter weather, very warm. The thought struck meI should learn to knit!

Twenty dollars and two days later, I had in my possession yarn and a pair of bamboo knitting needles. I pulled up YouTube to find a video tutorial, awkwardly clasped the needles, and attempted a long tail cast-on to create my first row of stitches. As I proceeded with the basic knit technique, it quickly became apparent that something was wrongno stitch should look quite that lumpyand it was time to try again. And again. And another dozen times.

After a few hours, I concluded that I wasnt very good at knitting. Beyond lacking the hand-eye coordination for even the simplest stitch, I was missing the patience for knitting with even a single skein of yarnlet alone integrating several colors and types of yarn into a cohesive, functional piece. Hope springs eternal, but I may need to try my hand at different needle crafts (cross-stitch?) to find success.

If the knitting project youre undertaking involves software systems and interconnected business processes, youve come to the right place. These pages offer the expert guidance you need to configure the sales and distribution integration points across your SAP S/4HANA system, from materials management to finance and beyond. Get ready to weave together your core cross-functional processesyoure on your way to fully integrated SD!
