I want to thank you and congratulate you for downloading the book, Positive Thinking.
This book contains proven steps and strategies on how to rid your life of all the negative thinking and destructive influences that do nothing but bring you down.
We all want to be happy in life, and as a general rule of thumb we do what we can to make our lives happy. We go to extremes to do things that will hopefully make us happy, whether it be buying things, going on exotic trips all over the world, dating, working, or whatever it may be, mankind is on a constant trek to gain happiness.
If you stop for a second and really give it some thought, you will see that I am right. Everything we do and say is for the hopeful end result that we will then be happy with our lives.
It is in our DNA. From birth, our focus in on being happy. We know what we want, even from a very young age, and we cry when we don t get it. When we finally do get what we were after, we stop.
It is something that we just automatically do, and the drive for happiness is something that pushes us through nearly all of our life decisions.
Maybe if we made more money we would be happy. Or maybe if we had more friends, maybe if you looked like that person or lost 5 pounds, then you would be happy.
Maybe if you were different, or if you were someone else. Or maybe you can pin your unhappiness on what someone else did to you when you were younger. If they hadn t bothered you or butted in where they didn t belong, you would be happy today.
I hate to be the one to say it, but ultimately those things have nothing to do with how happy you are. That is why you see people who are simply stunning to look at, have more money than they know what to do with, and all the comforts that you long for, yet they are still not happy.
No matter what, if we are not sure of what makes us happy, or know how to make ourselves happy, we are never going to achieve that happiness. We think that it is impossible for us to be unhappy if we get that one thing that we have been longing for, but we don t stop to think of how it always works out in the end.
We refuse to look back over our lives and think of the things that we thought would make us happy before. We saved and saved as a kid to get that one thing, or we refuse to think of how we just thought that the one person we wanted to date was going to be the answer to our happiness.
Now you know that none of those things were able to make you happy, but you are insistent that there are still other things out there that eventually will. Sure, you may not have found that thing yet, but you keep telling yourself that if you buy this one thing or that other thing then you are going to hit the magic button of happiness and never have to deal with anything that is sad again.
The denial of this fact is what fuels your life as you strive to find that one thing that is going to make you happy, and refuse to believe that it s not out there.
What makes this seem even bleaker is the fact that there is no magic formula for happiness, you can t ever make the right number of anything to ensure you will be happy tomorrow. The newness wears off of any new relationship, things get old and break.
Even after a long vacation you have to deal with the stress of going back to work, figure out what you missed, what you need to do now, and how you are going to pay for everything you did when you were out and about in the world. And after all of this dies down, you start to feel overwhelmed about your life once again, then it isn t long before you are hoping to go on another vacation.
The same goes for the rest of the things that we spend our days pursuing, we are always working on what we can have next, and what will make us happy then. We look around at our coworkers and we are convinced that they are happy because of things such as where they live or how much they are making.
Or maybe it is what they are driving or who they are dating that is making them happy. Whatever the reason for their happiness, we have ourselves convinced that we are going to be happy if we get the same things that they have.
After all, that is where happiness comes from, isn t it?
But this can t be it. There are a lot of happy people out there. Chances are, you know a few of them. They are those people that just go about life, and no matter what their situation is, they seem to be happy.
There doesn t seem to be a thing on this planet that is able to shake them. They are clearly the glass is always half-full types, and it doesn t seem to matter if it is hot, cold, windy, rainy, sunny, or anything.
They can be dealing with the unthinkable in their lives, or they could be running on cloud nine all the time, with life handed to them in a gift wrapped package. There are times you think you can blame your unhappiness and their happiness on what they are doing or given, but then you realize there are those that may be unwell or dealing with tragedy and they are still happy.
In fact, they may be dressed well, dressed poorly, rich, poor, struggling who knows? Yet they always seem to be happy. It is almost as if you can t bring them down even if you tried.
Of course there are the other people in the world, too. Those that have everything handed to them, and have the most cushioned life that someone could ask for, yet nothing is ever good enough. They manage to find fault in everything, even if it is something they thought they wanted.
You like to ignore these people, or blame their unhappiness on the fact that they don t have this or that they say they want, but you can t bring yourself to say that they are unhappy because of anything beyond they don t have what they want.
You medicate and justify your need to have more things because you tell yourself that even those that are rich and pampered still need to have more things in order to be happy.
These people are everywhere, but they don t seem to have the same power as the positive thinkers. Those that are positive just seem to rise above the crowd and do their own thing, and not let themselves be bothered by what is going on with the rest of the world.
So what is their secret? How did they manage to reach this level of happiness, and is there a way you can get it for yourself? Do you have to be some sort of superhero to feel happy that often, or is there really something simple that you can learn to do that will help you to also be that happy?
Does it help to expose yourself to all kinds of sunlight, and drink magic drinks, and wear bracelets or rubber bands that will make you feel happier a lot better? Or maybe you are one of those that spends all of your days reading those motivational quotes and energizing yourself.
It would be so much easier if you were like the people that made the motivational quotes, and if you were just happy because you were, so you didn t have to worry about what you did or what you bought.
