I dedicate this book to the seekers, the builders, and the conscious souls who trust that nature can return their body to wholeness. I also dedicate this book to the healers who act as the fulcrum to activate the wellness that is within every persons destiny.
My husband, Alan Smith, wore every hat in the creation of Slimming Meals That Heal. From conception to final edit, he has been the granite that provides the foundation to triumph. He managed the recipe testing and food styling, advised the flow of the chapters, and edited alongside me till the wee hours of the night. I love you.
My sister, Lynn Daniluk, took care of everything at Daniluk Consulting so I could carve out time to write SMTH. Her recipe revisions and suggestions were huge contributions. The greatest gift of all is how she consistently gauges and infuses integrity into our business with the precision of an archer. Thank you for being my chief champion.
My fellow nutritionist Cynthia Macmillan has been such a loving and inspiring assistant, copyeditor, recipe beautifier, and reference finder. Her mastery of language elevated SMTH, and her friendship elevated my experience as a writer and nutritionist.
Pamela Murray, who edited SMTH for the Random House Canada edition, somehow stays as Zen as Yoda while juggling huge responsibility. Her ability to use the force has trained me to tap into a reserve that I did not know I had. Also, kudos to my publisher, Anne Collins, and my publicist, Josh Glover, for their belief in both MTHI and SMTH.
My literary agent, Rick Broadhead, is a kind sage: I am always amazed at his tireless commitment when it comes to ensuring that an authors needs are met. He is the hardest-working agent in the business, and I am so lucky he encouraged me to become a writer over a decade ago.
My brother and yoga instructor, Shambunata (Steven Daniluk), gives me endless hours of joy, calm, and self-reflection. He is able to pluck stage fright out of my heart and doubt from my mind with the precision of a Jedi knight!
To the researchers and experts I interviewed, or who made written contributions: Cheryl Reifsnyder, Leanne Chan, Jason Tetro, Marc St. Onge, Bryce Wylde, Josie Driver, Brent Bishop, Chance Woods, Jennifer Nelson, Jessica Ortner, and Jennie Brand-Miller, M.D. They all helped to investigate and clarify information. They say it takes a village to raise a child; this book is a literary baby that my community helped to shape.
My mom, Elaine, and I have taken turns being both the caretaker and patient as we discovered our own personal prescription with food. Mom took me off all refined food when I was seven years old to rectify my ADHD. I radically changed her diet to heal her body at the age of 65. We both transformed our health 52 years apart and are reminded that the miracle of healing is just a meal away!
