Parenting a Teen or Young Adult
with Asperger Syndrome
(Autistic Spectrum Disorder)

Introduction

It is about ten years since I wrote my first book, Parenting A Child With Asperger Syndrome . My son, Kenneth, has Asperger Syndrome (AS) and he was the inspiration behind the book. When I wrote it he was 12 years old and just about to enter adolescence. Today he is 23 so not a child anymore! And there has been, as you can imagine, a lot of water under the bridge in the meantime.

Over the years from time to time I thought about writing a follow up to the original book, but I had a lot of reservations and I kept procrastinating. I didnt want anyone to think I was holding myself up as some kind of parenting model because, I have to admit it, the journey through his adolescent years was a tough one for him and for me. And I know I made a lot of mistakes.
