Y OUR INNER CHILD IS a metaphor, an idea and an image of your emotional, vulnerable self as you were when you were much younger. This child represents a doorway to deep healing, emotional release and joy.
Your journey of connection with this precious aspect of yourself is your key to lasting self-love, which will make it easier and more natural to love and be loved in all of your relationships.
To begin this process, remember how you looked at the age of three or four years and try to get a clear mental image of yourself at that age. A photograph may be helpful, if you have one.
Your inner child lives in your heart, the emotional center of your body. It is helpful however, to picture your child self outside your body in order to communicate more effectively with him/her. There are several phases to the inner child relationship. The first is the healing of your wounded child of the past. The second stage, which lasts the rest of your life, is nurturing your inner child of the present. This article will address both of these skill levels.
This child is not all that you are. You are an adult who has survived a lifetime of risks and hardships, growing and learning along the way. You have a brilliant mind, which you have used only partially because of the limitations of your parenting and the world you live in. There is much more to you than you know. If you are fortunate enough to have already recognized your greatness, you probably know that you are still not through. The closer you come to knowing who you really are, the more you realize how much you have to learn.
Deep inside you, there is a precious and beautiful child. This is the child you were when you were born, and it is still there, alive, inside you, right now.
There are different aspects to your inner child. There is the pure, innocent, open child that was there in the very beginning, and it remains untouched by what has happened to you in your life. When you connect with this child, you are in contact with the healing, love, and spirituality of your true, original nature.
Images of your inner child can also represent ways in which you have been hurt and wounded. These images will appear sad, lonely, afraid or deeply traumatized, according to which memory they are connected with.
In this book, you will be finding, helping and nurturing the wounded children from your past, in order to reconnect with the innocence, healing and goodness of your original child who you were at your birth.
You will also learn to reconnect with the pure, innocent child that was and remains untouched by painful and harmful experiences, to awaken this joy and beauty within your own heart.
We will start with a relaxation process, then some visualization exercises, followed by affirmations.
F IND A COMFORTABLE position, sit back and close your eyes.
Take a deep, relaxing breath, and feel the tension leave your body, as you settle into a place of self-reflection and healing. Take another deep breath, and be aware that with each breath you take, you become more deeply relaxed and at ease.
