Introduction
Microsoft's Windows NT product is receiving serious consideration in companies ranging in size from small businesses to Fortune 500 corporations as a network operating system that will either replace or complement their existing Novell NetWare or Unix servers. If you are like most computer professionals and business owners, you are probably thinking about placing Windows NT in your company or client's organization, and are thirsty for information that will help you to properly evaluate NT. The thirst for knowledge has increased considerably since Microsoft introduced version 4.0 of Windows NT in the fall of 1996.
The computer trade publications provide more than adequate coverage of many of NT's technical features. However, many trade magazines generally do not provide case studies of how and why companies are introducing NT into their organizations.
Word-of-mouth referral is generally the most often cited reason for purchasing a particular product, and Windows NT is not likely to be an exception. Buyers are interested in reading what others are doing with NT, particularly if it's in the same or an affiliated industry.
Most, if not all, of the currently available Windows NT books cover the operating system in depthfrom how to install it to how to optimize the performance of the various add-on Microsoft products for itand are geared to either systems administrators or programmers.
If you are interested in reading case studies of how

companies are using Windows NT, and are looking for a comprehensive overview of the product's fundamental features, which are not likely to change from one version of NT Server to the next, then this book is for you.
