Special Stitches

Puff stitch (puff st): [Yo, insert hook in st, yo, pull up lp] 3 times in same st, yo, pull through all lps on hook, ch 1(see Pattern Notes).

Color change: Pull up lp of next color through lp on hook, pull first color tight. When working with dark heather, carry natural along back of work and crochet over it; when working with natural, drop dark heather to back of work and pick up when needed.

Make 63 [99, 120, 132].

Rnd 1: With dark heather, ch 3, sl st in first ch to form ring, ch 1, 6 puff sts(see Special Stitches) in ring, join(see Pattern Notes) in top of first puff st. (6 puff sts)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, puff st in each puff st and in each ch-1 sp around, join in top of first puff st. Fasten off. (12 puff sts)

Rnd 3: Join natural in top of first puff st, ch 1, puff st in same st as join, sk next ch-1 sp, puff st in next st, puff st in next ch-1 sp, [puff st in next puff st, sk next ch-1 sp, puff st in next puff st, puff st in next ch-1 sp] around, join in top of first puff st. (18 puff sts)

Rnd 1: With natural, ch 5, sl st in first ch to form ring, [ch 2, {yo, insert hook in ring, yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook} 2 times, yo, pull through 3 lps on hook, ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, ch 2, sl st in ring] 8 times. Fasten off. (8 petals)

Rnd 2: Join dark heather between any 2 petals on rnd 1 (see illustration), ch 8, working in open sp between 4 joined Octagon Motifs, sl st in ch-1 sp on any Octagon Motif (see illustration), [*ch 8, sl st in ring between next 2 petals, ch 8, sl st in 6th st on same Octagon Motif (see illustration), ch 8, sl st in ring between next 2 petals*, ch 8, sl st in ch-1 sp on next Octagon Motif] 3 times, rep from * to *. Fasten off.

Flower Motif

Rep rnds 1 and 2 in each open sp between 4 joined Octagon Motifs.

Tassel

Make 64 [80, 88, 92].

With dark heather, cut 27 strands, each 16 inches long. Hold 25 strands tog, tie separate strand around center of bundle (see illustration A). Fold strands in half at center tie. Leaving center tie strand loose, wrap separate strand several times around bundle 1 inch from fold, tie ends securely (see illustration B). Trim strand to same length as Tassel.

Using center tie strand at top, tie 1 Tassel in each ch-1 sp around outside edge of Bedspread.
